well who ever told you the lobes are same, didn't know what he was talking about. if the lobes have different duration, they can't be the same |

I knew it wasn't in my head.. the entire personality of the motor was different with the cam in place.. standard was smooth with no real noticeable rev range significantly stronger pulling than any other.. (except down low)
With the cam, the car had a noticeable power band. |

its not in your head. lol
ive recently swapped my std au cam for a xr6 hp cam and under 3000 rpm there is not really much difference.(except nice burble at idle) compared to the std cam which had a more even spread power . but the power would start to drop of at 5400rpm, you could rev to 5700 before but you could see it didnt make any thing after 5400. but now with xr cam when the rpm hit 3500-4000 it starts to come alive and pulles all the way to 5700 rpm(fuel cut off.) so its hard to tell if or how much power has been gained? but i can tell the caricteristics of how the engine revs has changed.. so it does make a difference i assume from model to model the xr specs may have changed slightly.. so there is definatly a difference from std to xr you just got to decide if thats the sort of power increase your happy with. |

also there is a little more performance you could gain from using the ef manifold and el ecu.
plus your rev limiter is slightly higher in el than in ed from 5400 to 5700. i know its not much but 300 rpm is 300 rpm lol and the ef/el manifold will give you a slight torque increase down low.. there is a bit of stuffin around with adding wires to the ecu ect. ive done both and so far im happy with the resunts. |

yeah, I've been eyeing off getting an early EL head, intake manifold and computer myself... there seem to be lots of them getting wrecked here in Perth, if I can find one wtih a clagged motor, I'll make an offer on the top end of it and computer.
I love the sound of my car when driving though the tunnel in Perth.. very nice since the catback 2.5 went on. Still have to add a high flow cat and extractors (I have a nice set of genie interference strags here, but can't put them on till I get the cat sorted out.) having heaps of fun with it though... once I have 3.9 or 4.11 gearing in place, I should have a little road rocket. |
