It says that the EBII and ED have different mapped computers to the EA....

Also says allot of other interesting stuff.

It makes me wonder if I should bite the bullet and buy a smartlock bypass and put an EL computer on the ED motor...

Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering because perhaps if I did this, I could add a dual runner intake as well later.. (and lose the davies craig thermo controller)

ed motors with el or au heads, cams and manifolds fit quite well in to ea's (with a bit of work) and go very well after too

yeah... so far all I have done is put in an ED XR6 cam and today I added a 2.5 inch mandral bent hi flow exhaust...

Still have to put my genie's in after I get a decent cat converter.
Then I am going to toss the factory air box and fabricate something unusual and extreme.. :-)

I have the bug now.. so this may not be enough.. if it's not, then I will start looking at the EL computer with EF head and intake manifold.

Together with an AU gasket, a lumpier cam and possibly water injection and advanced timing.. that would be a pretty nice setup..

The old EA doesn't know what's hitting it.

I was curious to know if anyone had put a smartlock ECU into a non smartlock EA. (I want the EB II/ED mapping for now...)

I have an EL XR6 motor in my 4wd, and it has a smartlock bypass on the ECU. I have been having some niggly idling probs, which i have put down to the purge canister solenoid being stuck open and the fuel pressure is a bit high due to my Bosch motorsport pump. I will be getting rid of the Ford ECU and going with an EMS Stinger.

just put a sm,artlock bypass in it, and buy my ED XR ECU, if the EA is a manual that is

did you notice any gains with the xr cam lol?

xr cam is identical to standard. whoever sold you it took you for a ride buddy

Are you sure?

ED standard is supposed to put out 145kw, XR6 supposed to put out 160...

The head/ECU/valve springs are supposed to be different, why would they change the springs and put the same cam in?

Also, one of the articles I read said that the EF standard is very similiar to an ED XR6 cam, just alittle gentler... so it can't be the same as the standard cam.

Also, i noticed a huge kick in the pants at 3000-3500 rpm that wasn't there before I put the cam in. So I am prepared to bet some $$$ that it is not a standard ED cam. (it also has the tickford part number on it, they would not put a tickford part number on standard parts no?

it is the same cam mate and the power kick was all in your head or you old cam was f**k in some way

My brother inlaw had an ED XR6, and I rebiult the engine for him. While I had the cyl head, for porting & polishing, I checked out the cam. On the cam is a type of part number cast onto it, but the "DA" part was ground off, and in its place was "stamped"...." DT ".
I measured it against a std EL cam, and found no difference in the 2, only that the locating dowl was in a different spot.
When you look at the cam timing specs for an ED XR6 cam, they run 2 dgs retarded compared to std timing, so the pull comes on later, hence the use of 3.45 diff gears. Thats what gives the ED XR6 a kick in the pants higher up the revs.

That fits.. the article said that the ED XR6 cam was nearly identical to the EF cam. makes sense that the EL would be the same.

having said that, the EF/EL do have a different cam to the standard ED, which has a different cam from the EBII... (standard ED is supposedly milder than the standard EBII with 5kw less output.)

So the ED xr6 cam is similar to the standard EF/EL cam, but NOT the same as the standard ED..

just pulled out the cam I took out of the Ed motor, all numbers totally different.:

standard
cast: 87 DA 62 50 AC
stamped: hard to tell, looks like an N or a Z

Xr6
cast: 62 50 U3 1
stamped 92DT AB

don't appear to be even close..

I also really don't think I imagined the boost.. because I purposely took it for a thrash in the morning before I changed came.. and 2 hours later after i put the new one in..

well i wouldnt say there is no difference in the cams but
the differences are minor..

Cool, so slightly longer duration on inlet and exhaust and with some resultant overlap..

ok sorry i must be mistaken. i was told the lobes are identical and assumed the cam is identical. i guess the dowel is in a different location affecting when the power comes on.
