G'day fellow motorists, I thought I might share with you a recent experience I have had
About two weeks ago, my EL (I6) started running rough. Mainly on idle, but the occasional cough on acceleration, and when cruising. On start-up, it would sometimes start smoothly, but mostly roughly, and would seem to run on 5 1/2 cylinders, popping and f@rt etc.... I put this down to blocked injectors, and subsequently ordered some new ones. The reason I chose this is that the car is dual fuel, and mainly runs on gas, with petrol about once every 3 months ( I know...........) ENYWAY, I thought I would check a few other things while I was waiting. Ran a diagnostics, and everything checked out, no probs. So, sat down with a brew or two and had a think.... this seems like an ignition problem. Let's have a look at the plugs, seeing as we have not much else to do. Pulled out the plugs and LO AND BEHOLD, a hairline crack on #3 insulation!!!! It was on the positive terminal (in the combustion chamber), and I had to get a magnifying glass to actually verify what I was seeing Popped in a replacement set of sparking plugs Runs as sweet as a nut!!!! Anybody wanna buy a set of brand new injectors??!! |
