Hey Guys
Just a quick introduction, Mike from South Africa. I recently bought an Australian import a 4.0 Straight Six Ranchero Gli "Outback" as a project car, my third Ford. South Africa no longer imports Fords so finding information on this car is very difficult. In this shape we got the “Gli - Outback” and “Ranchero -XR6” versions as I understand. However I believe in Australia themy car is basically the same spec 1996 Ford Falcon GLI UTE? I'd like to find out more about this UTE, ask some questions and get pointed in the right direction. Ill post pictures of the car and engine as soon as its out of the body shop, hopefully then users can help me identify exactly what model / series and engine I have. Anyway great site, chat soon. |

However doing some research on Austaralian used car sites I see you also had an Outback badged version. I think this series is the XH? What is the XHII? |

Quote: What is the XHII? Australian Falcons models started with the XK in 1960 and continued through to the XF. After the XF ford continued the series using a XF body on E series running gear these where the XG and XH they came only in utes and vans. Basically your ute is a EF falcon in a X series body with minor body work to bring it into line with the EF sedan and wagons

Ranchero was the named used for 'ute' outside of Australia, just like the 60's Falcons in America the ute was called the Ranchero.

From pictures I have seen the EF Falcon sedan has a very different intake manifold and engine layout. This pic below is exactly the same layout as my engine. (Im just missing that air intake..sob) UPDATED PIC. Last edited by ZARanchero on Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:09 am, edited 3 times in total. |

Unfortunately the "Ranchero" sticker has been ditched as the tailgate had to be resprayed, years of having a canopy on the UTE left surface rust. You guys have my head spining... seems the van is a bit of a trailer park mix breed This is how it looked when I bought it, horrible canopy on the back and its hard to see but the front bumper was a sort of cream shade, there are also a few dents and scratches which are all being repaired now. |

From memory, the SA exports have a slightly different Body Electric Module (BEM) - the Australian 'Smartlock' engine immobiliser is still there, SA models also have a CONLOG alarm. Just for interest - leave a door open. Does the overhead interior light go out after 5mins ???
