It's a good starting point mate ...but I don't have to tell you that the likelihood of you running good times will be down to what I've mentioned above.
Go down on a nice crisp, cold night ...warm up the tyres nicely ...stall her up to approx. 4000 rpm on the line, and SLIP the clutch on take-off ...change cleanly at 5500 rpm in each gear ...and hopefully the quality and combo of your mods will give you the desired result. Good luck mate.

I was toying with the idea of water injection, or one of those humidity bubbler mods. denser air and all that..
besides, its all about fun... I'll keep trying, but it's not like I gonna get shot if I don't make it first time out. |

Mark.. I agree with most of what you said except
Quote: An N/A I6 can have a great combination of mods ...BUT from my experience, pulling a 14.5 quarter mile is ONLY possible if OTHER things are right on the night.
N/A cars are more susceptible to things like track conditions and driver technique. I actually find my XR6 a lot harder to run consistant times in then my XT. I do hear what your saying though, track conditions and your driving has a huge role to play. My XR6 is a very thin line between not enough stall resulting in too much time waiting for boost to come in and slightly too much resulting in massive wheelspin and a poor 60' time.

Well Trent, we were talking N/A and mid-14's in this thread ...not boosted and low 12's like you, haha.
I was saying that track / air temps will have more of a detrimental effect on N/A cars ...while forced / intercooled induction cars negate the effect more so. But as you say, driver technique is very important to BOTH ...you boosted guys have more things to get right technique-wise to run CONSISTENT times.

grub73 just ran a 14.5 @ 97mph at Heathcote over the weekend. So I guess it is possible run a 14.5s with an N/A I6. Not sure what has been worked on it, but it is hella fast.

whats all this about na being disadvantaged the most with hot weather?.. ive seen huge differences in quater times and dyno figure's in boosted cars hot vs cold weather... boosted cars love the cold climate at wsid in the middle of winter...

Of course boosted cars are affected by air temp ...but this thread is talking about the possibility of an N/A Falcon 6 doing mid-14's ...an already tall ask that can be dependant on the ambient air temp.

14.5'S are doable in na form but is alot easier with a lighter model car. The au wagon stock does 16.9's down the 1/4 mile. 14.5 's are alot easier in a basic sedan e series than an au. If you have an e series then your already 0.2 second quicker than most au's.

Yeah Grubs run was good, on a hot day/night when it was still 27 degrees at 9.45 pm (according to track timeslips).
No ones saying its super easy and that any monkey can get an NA 6 to do 14.5 1/4s, but it is do able. He would go even quicker on a colder night. any naysayers are just fooling themselves.

Hi guys, so far I have done the following,
-bored 30 thou -balanced bottom end -AU mains brace -AU head gasket -Ported and reco'ed Tickford head -Wade 1673 cam -comp raised to 10.5/1 -extractors +cat+ 2.5 redback sports system -factory xr6 ecu -K&N pod in modded airbox All up cost about $3000 doing the assembly myself (with some great advise from fellow fordmodders, THANKS GUYS) Dyno sheet shows 151.3kw, after which i changed the airbox to throttle body pipe to a BF unit and picked up 3 kw I still have more to do as money permits i.e. better cat & ecu chip+tune, rebuild diff + new rear shock & bushes Also I ran the 14.5 @97 mph with the spare tyre in still and 40 psi in the tyres, so there could be a 14.2 in the car next time with out any more work. So 14.5 IS VERY ACHIVEABLE!!! P.S. thanks to all of the people who organized the hire of the track and the whole event, I had an absoloute ball , And sorry to Gibbo For stealing his thunder,

Good to know that it is reasonably doable..
how much would balancing to bottom end be really? I ask because the i6's are not big on revs anyway.. so what is the benefit in balancing it? Also, what do you mean by "AU mains brace"? I'm assuming you mean the main bearing? 151.3rwkw is awesome.. I'd be damn happy with that in a naturally aspirated car.. how lumpy is the wade 1673 cam? sorry for picking your brain... wife takes all my money so have to work smart not hard... rgds Frank |
