have an nc ghia but am rebuilding a eb xr6 engine. question is will it be worth buying a regrind cam to use over the stock tickford cam. would i see a worthwhile gain and someone told me you lose lift but gain duration with a regrind. any info would be appreciated

when they grind the original cam to change the profile they only grind a small amount off, and then you fit 1 extra shim into the lifters and it makes up for the amount taken off the cam, so you will see a good gain depending on which cam you pick

Sorry mate, it all depends on what you want.
I assume you mean a cam ground more aggressivly than a Tickford cam?
In this case it would be less economical, require different tuning, better breathing mods and would be better suited to harder driving (less low down torque).

You will gain top end power but loose drivability and it will need mods to complement it.

ok well i got the tickford computer with it. my lane already has proper cai not pod on pipe technology.
lukey exhaust pacemakers and a few other little things. i want a good punchy engine but dont want to lose too much low down, if thats even possible. wat cam would fit the bill if any.

thanks for the info guys

A turbo...But seriously, I would rather do diff gears first. I have had two wade grinds and my car is screaming for a set of 3.73s. I do like a bit of low end grunt and this would benifit the whole rev range and hide some of the downfalls of a bigger cam.

you can fit a vernier cam gear and adjust it to make the power of the cam come in earlier and also again it depends on the grind of the cam you pick as to how much down low you lose and how much up top you gain.

The EF / EL XR6 cam is "lumpier" than early E series. As a straight swap, suggest that as a good option.

would it still work effectively without a bbm, it is designed for a car running one.
wouldnt i lose more low down as its designed for a bbm which helps low down torque.
if i were to go that route would an au xr6 cam fit???

Au cam won't fit unless you use the au head and rocker gear , or maybe just the au rocker gear , not to sure .
Should be fine with out bbm , as you don't have one you won't notice any loss .
