Is a Supercharger going to make my engine a thirsty animal for fuel
as in for everyday use, i know if i get one installed its going to add me 67 kilowats to my rear wheels, engine total power of 240Kw.. problem is price of fuel atm, and the cost of charger .... does anyone think i can save petrol going this way using a supercharger to save fuel. also will it affect how many kilometers i will get out of a tank of petrol on the highway??? thanx guys

So your thinking of getting a supersharger, but asking about how much fuel it will use...
If the cost of fuel is troubling you, should you really be thinking about getting a supercharger??? But yes, it probably will use more fuel. Just my thoughts... the bottom line is cilkorules if your worried about how much fuel you'll use by putting a blower or turbo on your car, then you cant afford to do it..everyone ive known that has blown their car the least thing they worried about was the cost of fuel and how many MPG they got

i thought the supercharging/induction and extractor/exhaust mods were able to improve fuel economy by making the engine work more effeciently, or does the horsepower boost cancel that out?

Supercharging can in some ways make the car more efficient, but in general, it wont.
I still get good economy out of mine at times. If you like to get your boot into it a bit, then you'll love the extra power you'll have, but don't go expecting great fuel consumption... |

In theory you probably could save some fuel if you laid off the throttle. But let's face it, if you've got it, you'll use it.

lol yea... but in theory the quicker you get to the speed limit, the less fuel used on acceleration... so if you carry the one theres bound to be some fuel savings :-p

Your fuel consumption wont go through the roof if you dont put your foot down. The catch 22 part is that it is the reason you want a supercharger...
It will be a tad higher even if you dont rev it out due to the extra parasitic loss of having to drive an extra accessory. If you rev it out it will be near on terrible on fuel, With extra air you need extra fuel. If you dont have extra fuel it will lean out and you will need to change head gaskets. Which aint cheap either. Power, Reliable and Cheap. Now choose 2.

power and economy don't go well hand in hand....choose one or the other. can't be greedy, unless you plan on driving like a granny with a supercharger at the push of a foot, its pretty much pointless to have a supercharger.

Don't worry about fuel economy, just get in there & go for it! you'll stop wondering when you have first hand experience. full stop!

you should still supercharge it.
just need to change your tight a r s e attitude, by thinking to yourself that your whilling to spend 7g on supercharging it but not going to fork out an extra $30 a week for fuel. just my reasoning to help you out in making your decision. www.mancans.com

Depends heavily on how you drive it to.
But clearly its going to use more fuel as the blower will force more air in. |

It's true in some senses in that things that increase the amount of air going into the engine will require more fuel then to make more power. But more power can also be made by making the engine or driveline more efficent, this will actually improve fuel economy for normal driving. Take for example replacing the stocko restrictive exhaust manifold with a set of high flowing extractors, like wise with the exhaust system, this makes the exhaust system more efficent and at normal driving would likely improve fuel economy. Another example is manual gearboxs over auto, autos generally have less power coming out the end of them and usually the vehicle is less economical to drive. But in the case of a supercharger what you've said is true. |
