BGS4MY wrote: Phongas, how much did it cost you for the one piece pipe, you obviesly got an exhaust joint to do it for you yea? Nah I bought it off someone else for too cheap to mention. I don't think it's one piece, but I have never really looked into it, may have been welded, then sanded down smooth. Also note...it JUST fits. You have to cut down the mounting point on the BBM where the stock intake is mounted to. Even then, it rubs on the bonnet heat cover.

dont get an exhaust place to do it. They usually dont have the right welder to get the perfect weld.
I got this made by snort performance for $200 (might have gone up now). All I did was send a pic of phongs intake and he made it up. Its stainless with a couple welds then sanded down, barely noticeable though. Could probably be adapted for a basic boost set-up later down the track too. Also that snorkel if from an XR6 Turbo - if its good enough for that then its more than enough for any non boosted 4L, you can fit your whole hand in it. |

DiFilippo & Jim Mock sell off the shelf 3" intake for Eseries NA 6cyl which are ceramic coated but cost $395 each looks similar to what Snort did above

If you want a seamless looking pipe then all welds leave a bead which needs to be smoothed down, regardless of the process used. |

I just put on half of my intake, 2 straight pipes up to the elbow and a poddy connected to it, i can deffinetly feel a better acceleration responce, its such a pain to get the pody in the box, i got the fat Calibra one so its a bit tight, next few days get the 90 degree bent pipe and yeaa

I think in a round about kind of way he's trying to say most exhaust places would mig it up then polish it back, where-as to do it properly you would purge it with a tig so when you do polish it back theres still some weld left to hold it together.
Not sure if thats where he was going but that's my thought. Though most zorst shops have tigs these days anyway. That would be something you would work out upon purchase. I'm a boily/fabricator so one on every car in my front yard cost me nothing, would I pay big dollars for a big one after noticing the difference ? definitely not. There's plenty of other ares I'm more interested in spending money on. Mostly associated with a positively charged inlet It's a bit like a pod vs panel debate. there is a difference, but it's negligible.
