It's definately an XR6 - its got the red engine, badges even the horrid 15" mag wheels. I'm only the second owner so I know a fair bit of its history. It's done mostly 2km trips its whole life. Would that be good or bad for the cat?

Second that... Then you'll be able to find out straight away.

1. check ur error codes u can get from the ecu...these always give u interesting things u never knew was wrong...or if ur lucky nothing

2. get ur injectors cleaned...and i dont mean run a bottle of that injector cleaning crap in it,...get em sonic cleaned properly

3. if no improvement get a new cat...they can block easily...you can be unlucky. People put on 2.5" exhausts but keep standard cats...the bottle neck still exists but nope no one even considers it.

4. you should have done this already but if u havnt...spark plugs (about $20-30)...dw about leads...but take ur air box out and get to the dizzy...clean it out...replace it if you want...cant hurt...

5. buy a new BA...thats what im doing

run it up at the dragstrip, see what times you can pull out.
when it was on the dyno, were you running it on premium fuel?
disconnect the battery for about 1hr and reconnect it, let the computer re-learn, it'll run a bit rough at the beginning, then it'll come good.

I got a Dyno Tune at Ultra Tune for my EL XR6 and they can tell you the power each cylinder is producing. That will also show inbalance across the cylinders.

If it's an auto (like mine), they aren't that quick off the line. Best perfomance is 3K rpm to 5K rpm. A powerchip makes a noticeable difference.

Do all the basics first... plugs, leads, oil ect. Bit pointless doing extractors and main exhaust and leaving the RESTRICTIVE old cat there.
Get it running A1 befor you do mods, then dyno it... you gotta set a starting point to work off.

A friend who has a standard EF Fairmont took it for a spin today and thought it had more power down low than his car but thought an XR6 would pull a bit more.
I've since found out that the place I got the dyno at is the more reliable of the 2 in town. Looks like I'll have to go to Brisbane if I want a decent dyno.
I'm going to do some time tests this weekend.

Craig

p.s As for leaving the old cat on, I did that because of what I've read on this forum

My ED XR6 got 90rwkw and 94 rwkw last time (maybe the only time?!) it was on the dyno. The same dyno clocked a car at 109rwkw that has scored 183rwkw on a different dyno........

So dynos can differ greatly!!
