cause?

10+ years of service.

seriously, thats the hottest part the hose can get.

fatigue heat and fluid.... replace it, and its about time the rest get replaced too.

That hose is just waiting to burst! Replace it ASAP before it leaves you stranded.

One other thing, is it soft when cold or still holding heaps of pressure?

Replace top and bottom and flush the system while your there.

Will get replacement hose today and other hoses soon
Doesn't seem to be holding pressure when cold

Yeah replace the hose ASAP and maybe the reservoir cap if its not relasing pressure when needed.
