Hi i am looking at getting an ef-el around christmas time so im just looking around atm i was just wondering is there a difference in motors between the xr6 and the fairmont as i would much rather the fairmont and lower it etc and the fairmont seems to be ralativly cheaper. if there is a difference wut can i do to get the power back apart from exaust.
thanx for any info

Same motor most of the way through however the Fairmont is a little bit heavier. I'd go the Fairmont for sure and do a few little performance mods.

get an EL fairmont ghia.... everything in one package.

They also dont have a troublesome coil pack setup if you get an EF get a series 2 Fairmont ghia. they also have the XR setup.

If you like manual convert it to manual if you like auto change the diff gearing and it will hammer.

troublesome coil pack setup ? opposed to dizzy module and dead coils?
you hear more about ea-ed's and el's than ef!

also EL ghia's got 3.45:1 lsd's!

To tell a Tickford Ghia is by the 4.0 sticker on the bumper side strip, its gold instead of silver. They have the whole Tickford package, engine, ECU, suspension, and the diff, LSD.

I second that. People go on about failing coil packs, but all you see is countless threads on spark issues with dizzy and modules like you said...

go ghia by the time you upgrade all the bits from ghia to standard it will cost ya more

main extras a ghia has is leather interior, chrome interior door handlse, xr6 runnin gear, none of this goodies in a standard mont, premo sound

i can tell ya all this cause i got a standard and built it into a ghia very expensive

i'll third that. the amount of dead coils you see on dizzy cars is huge, all it take is a little splash of water and it's game over. can't say i ever had a coil problem with my EF

It's called a golden ghia, but few people know it by that name. Its basically an xr, except its gota 2kw deficency which aint much at all. Word is tho that they shift harder than a xr. But they do cost more than your standard ghia. And make sure you don't get a copy/mock up
