Hi there guys,I am looking at doing my engine head gasket change. Today i got a quote from Coffey Ford in dandenong for headgasket and head bolts.
AU head gasket = $98 AU Head Bolts = $75 Just wana ask you guys if this is the right price for them and also got quoted for a VRS set from Autobarn in Dandenong (Vic) for another $98 As far as i know and i have searched on this, i need the following parts apart from coolant, engine oil, loctite, tools etc.: 1) AU Head Gasket original 2) AU head bolts original 3) VRS head gasket set Please guide me, any help will be appreciated, thanx in advance.

I'm pretty sure that you use the AU gasket, but the EF/L bolts. I'm assuming you have an E series, not an AU.
I'm not 100% on the bolts thing as when i did mine i used the gasket in the set. First one lasted 200,000 so i assumed the next one would last another 200 and no point paying for an AU gasket that would outlast my bottom end. Maybe i am just tight.

aftermarket is your friend on this one
V2147KCHS Permaseal VRS set including H/gasket HBS041 head bolts to suit AU prices vary but those numbers should work at a bursons which are very well priced i understand.

i thought you didnt need to use spray with the AU metalgasket?
Quick question, do the AU headbolts need machining to go into an eseries head as they seem to be bigger? |

Hylomar is great s**t, it not only helps with sealing but it also allows gaskets to just peal off instead of having to scrape them

Guys Sorry for not mentioning what i drive, i got an EF Falcon futura with 195K on the clock atm, i had 165K when i bought it first. What i think is i should use the AU gasket as its steel + EF/EL bolts ? OR AU bolts will be awrite ?

I don't think you would need Hylomar on a steel head gasket. The gasket seals pretty well on its own and the point about peeling off...I am sure the steel gasket will come off as one piece...it doesn't break into pieces like the E-series gaskets.
Can't really say if genuine is better then aftermarket...but to be on the safe side, I'll buy genuine. I got AU head bolts on my engine, fits just fine. I also believe you can't get E-series head bolts anymore...just AU ones...from Ford that is. phong =P~

well tickford i sell aftermarket gasket sets and bolt sets to dozens of engine re conditioners all day everyday and dont have a problem at all so in my best wisdom this guy if he does it correctly will have the same outcome.
no pissy little fights ok.

yeah i would go the non ford gaskit kit also provided it was a decent brand and not some cheap s**t...
a complete vrs shoudnt cost more than $100...+ bolts if u use the ford MLS gaskit then u still need to buy a VRS set as well so your up for another $100 for the MLS so the job is almost twice the price.....to some people this is nothing to others its heaps...just depends how tight a*** u are? done properly it should last at least 5years....who keeps a car that old for that long anyway?
