Here we go again. Have read lots of posts. Can be a very tricky thing to pin point, anyone with an idea or had a similiar problem please advise?
I have an EF I6 Auto, dual fuel. Two mechanics had a look and can't fix it. Its not the Map sensor, the ISC seems to be working but unsure how well. Injectors are a1. What it did first was just idle a bit off, hunting while on petrol but fine on gas. After the last mechanic had a look it all changed?? All I saw him do was advance the timing so now it idles better at the lights and driving. What new though is when starting on petrol rpm is all over the place and then it usually stalls. The battery was disconnected so I guess the ECU did the relearning or whatever. Its always run rich. I bought an ECU for $30, about to put it in, the C2 and C7 capacitors look ok. I don't really trust ebay, prefer Bursons a new ISC is $154 Oxy sensor is $82.50 Crank sensor $76 Coolant sensor $32.50 To have an ECU professionally tested takes 4hrs and is $85 and it has to be out the car before you get there. HELP!!!!

Well the EF has coil packs so the timing is not adjustable for starters.
I'll move this to the 6 cyl forum, you'll get more of a response there. |

I was told that the timing was out??

Yeah, cant change the timing on an EF. I am guessing he bumped up the idle speed a little.
I would try 5 things 1. Remove ISC, clean out with carby cleaner and replace. 2. Replace leads and spark plugs 3. Run a self test on the ECU 4. Reset idle speed 5. Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold gasket by spraying it with carby cleaner. Might also like to replace the fuel filter

Check your injector electrical plugs are secure and clipped properly. Check all vaccy hoses as well (especially MAP sensor).
Don't rely solely on what the mechanics have said either. If the car runs and idles without a problem on LPG, but ordinary on petrol, I'd be suspecting a petrol delivery problem - replacing the fuel filter first is a good idea, particularly if you don't know when it was changed last. All that stuff you bought, you'll probably find you won't need - what you should do is post on here for help first.

had a drama with young blokes nl fairlane, running rough, idling high, rough gear changes (auto). Injector o-rings were squarish looking, changed them and now it purrs.

Thank you all,
so far I have only bought the ECU. Thought posting here might save me $$ if anyone recognised the problem. xler8, The injector rings are not square at all, are intact and c clean. So form what everyone says its not going to be an issue with the ECU? while running the manifold gasket was sprayed with something while it was running it seemed ok. when I said timing I was told cam timing, the chain keeps slipping? All I can say is thank god for LPG.

I'm bidding on a new oxy sensor, so I'll let you know if that makes a difference on mine.

How do you reset idle speed?
