Many Thanks,
I have a vacuum can but don know where to run the vacuum feeds. I have not got a clue how to programme a j3 chip but I want to look into the chip. |

you should not be having low vac problems with a dev4 cam. they aren't a massive cam. unless there is a vacuum leak or the cam isn't dialled in correctly.

Vac canister isn't hard to hookup, look around online, there are doc's out there to give you idea's.
You could probably even just get another factory one from the wreckers & run it to see what happens? A J3 chip & tune should be on the cards. Cheers ToranaGuy

See what I'm getting at Jarred? Synical bastard, We all know JMM is in the business to make money, everyone is. ButI do tend to agree, that while his stuff usually works when it does have issues it leaves a very sour taste in peoples mouths, Considering they spend premium coin with him for results,(that fail to be replicated on any other dyno other than his own) Its the old addage, a happy customer will tell 5 - 10 other people, a p****d off customer will tell anyone that will listen. I've tried to deal with him before, but his before sales service was so s**t, I shuddered to think what his after sales support would be like, made even worse by the fact I lived in another state. I had work done local and have been happy with the results. Each to their own. But I would expect that the amount of horror stories I have heard over the years about JMM, It does amaze me he is still trading, there has to be an element of BS behind some of them.

Yeah I always assume there is some truth with the stories you hear, but I also take it for granted that they are embelished to maybe make it seem like the customer was ripped just that little bit harder. I know some JMM Dev5 cams suffered from chain slap, that was due to the LSA, that has since been tightened up and has now redueced the excessive guide wear that generated the sale, the temp fix was to fit a heavier spring to the tensioner, but that was short term. I am not aware of anyone on the forums in Sydney currently running dev gear, most people in this neck of the woods go to CMS or similar.

I'm not cynical. Just been stung by workshops when we were trying to get my brothers VL sorted. The last straw was a so called "VL specialist" who destroyed a new set of rear control arm bushes because he tried pressing them in backwards. And this is a man who knows VL's so well has has worked on a few 8 second VL's.
Mocks skull just seems to be made of glass. Can see right through the arrogance of his words. |

See what I'm getting at Jarred? DRHEMIs car makes an alleged 180rwkw and runs a blistering 14.8 second quarter mile. so the suggestion of 3.9 gears and their stall convertor is fairly valid. also if you read that email carefully, you will see he doesn't try to sell him a chip, he says "I can also recommend the dev5 cam and retune your J chip to get that right." hypothetical, someone e-mails (this is important) you saying they have a 977b, they make 180rwkw and run a 14.8 and they want to know if a Dev5 will make them quicker. you reply back "bring it in so we can chuck it on the dyno". flipside situation we now have xcabbi on a forum saying "they can't even provide some basic advice for free, they just want you to pay for a dyno run and squeeze cash out of you". you've read between lines that just aren't there, makes it look to me like you've got an axe to grind with JMM that goes beyond casual cynicism?

DRHEMI wrote: Baically i wanted to pull the 977b out - replace with JMM DEV 5 and retune and have a better 1/4 mile as is without any change to stall or diff - like for like comparison. I basically just wanted the answer to the above question - which could not be answered I also asked "I assume your DEV 5 cam pulls from 3000 to 5500? And the convertor will be matched with the DEV 5 cam?" That is why Mock has advised about the 3000 Stall And the Diff Ratio was as I wanted a good 1/4 mile So if you get his DEV 5 cam, Match it with his Stall and 3.9 gears then yeah sure you will get good results but everything I have done with my car is one thing at a time to see if there is an improvement or not, this is the only way i have achieved 180+ rwkw - not 3 things at once as for me that seems as going back wards and you won't see the results of each modification If i put 3.9's in with my current set up i will get a better 60 foot thus a better 1/4 mile If i put a 3500 stall in then that will be matched with my 977b cam and I will get a better 60 foot thus better 1/4 mile And for the Record Mock was very helpfull on the phone and prompt with emails with advise about their products except releasing the cam specs as they dont want it copied

back in the early days I ran mocks gear & at that stage he was really the only I6 specilist around so I didn't no any better the car ran ok & I thought it was quick .... his products fail to meet his advertised claims & I'm sure theres alot of guys here that have had the same experiance once I upgraded to CMS's gear years ago I coudn't believe the difference & a lot cheaper than what I paid for as, at least Joe dosn't crap on about his power figures what he says you shoud have is what you get plus there was a stage that almost every dyno day that was held any car that was set up by CMS smashed any other N/A 6 cylinder that ented & at least he's still trading...
thats my 2 cents worth

I have a dev5 cam and while it takes a long time to settle down after an ECU reset (several tanks) it eventually idles almost perfect with a stock ECU.

What I bought it for turns out way cheaper than what JMM sells it for. But still would be a disappointment, and would be nice to know, so I know if I have to use shims.
When I finally receive the cam, I'll post some pics and whatever and try and figure this out. Cheers!
