Hey people,
i am looking at get a set of decent jumper leads, so far i have found Juice Booster Cables and they seem good quality. Can anyone recommend any decent off the shelf jumpers leads or am i better just making a set up Minimum spec i want is 500amp cheers, bear |

i Would say just go get some 1.5K Amp or so jumpers, the more current the cable the can handle the less likely you are going to fry the cables from the heat produced from the current, other thing is the jaws make sure they are sturdy and are big enough to make a solid connection with the battery terminals.
i assume the highest voltage the jumpers would be used for would be 24v? but if higher than that (i wouldnt have a clue what for) make sure it has good insulation cos pretty much any voltage over 50 or so our bodys do not have as much resistance against so yeh. dunno if this will help but ohwell im just a tad bored so decided to type something haha |

I made my own... The ones on the market are crap...
I used 50mm squared cable... They're 6 meters long and jump start anything off my battery pack... I wanted a long set and I had to go to 50mm to avoid too much voltage drop over that length... They have no surge features... But common sense says to turn on the flat cars high beams before disconnecting to absorb the spike... Matson make a thing that clips around the two cables and gives you reverse polarity indication and spike protection... May get one one day... May not... I used big heavy clamps and brazed the wiring into them... As I said... A pretty kick a** pair of leads... Cheers, Tim

I used some left over wire from work so was cheap... It is 50mm but yeah pretty sure that is close to 0 gauge... from memory anyway... Na purchased bits locally... Clamps come from a general handy man type store here... Modified them slightly... Different heat shrinks... Some red and black to hold the cable to one handle where it runs into the clamp and some glue lined stuff to hold the two single cores together... glue lined means it doesn't move and the cables can't twist... Good s**t... I'll take some photos if you want them...

Googling...
Mine are a parrot nose clamp... Similar in effect to these: Jaws are removable... so you feed the cable through the clamp and sorta crimp the jaw to the cable... Braise it there... Hold the clamp open and pull the cable back through and the jaw inside the clamp and bolt or rivet there... May sure you don't get fingers caught in them... They're real heavy and I'd hate to see how a finger would turn out that got caught... Not sure how much I paid here for them... You want a set or two I can always price them for you... Would just post them off to you if you have no luck... Will get pics though I made a similar set at work with 35mm cable and they jump start our 16tonne truck (Isuzu FX-950 long I think ) without a hassle... The clamps hand on well... Cheers, Tim

This image shows the glue lined heatshrink to hold the two cores together... Note how the glue comes out the end as it melts... Ensures the heatshrink can't move once set in place and all are keep equidistant... cables are heatshrinked to the handles to hold in place... braised cables... Then a stainless cap head bolt holding the jaw to the clamp itself... NyLoc nuts on the back... Rest of the pictures explain themselves... Haven't got a price yet sorry...

well i ended up going with the juice booster cable 500amp with cinch lock (ratcheting) clamps, 2 gauge cable and 6.1 metres long and damn i am impressed.
I highly recommend these leads to anyone chasing a good set of jumper leads |
