hi a week ago i was thinking of doing a engine conversion el or au xr6 into ea fairmont anyway i took my car in and had it done and got a el xr6 engine ... now my my problem is that i got the ea manifold and ecu.. and i seem to be slugging at times i know its just a ea but thinking that it would make more difference i mean my dads ed xr6 killed it any suggestions ? im putting my pacemakers and a 2 and a half inch highflow exhaust in with a k&n intake but apart from that any suggestions as to why it would get killed by a older engine?

prob garing.
Is your EA an auto or a manual/ If it's am auto (especially an EA 1) then your gearing is going to be worse for acceleration than your dads EDXR6. UNless you have changed the diff ratio in your car, it is probably quit high, compared to the XR6's 3.45:1.

i got a seiries 2 4 speed auto so u saying the manifold has nothing to do with it?

gearing might be the problem but i think the problem is in the ecu, try changing it to a ef xr6 ecu.

No. a lot of people on this forum swear by the BBM manifolds for better grunt, so I think some breathing could be had there. But if your gearing is very different from the XR6, which it sounds like it is, then some good time will be lost there. As for the ECU, yeah I agree with that, (definaely can't hurt) but I think you will need an EL XR6 ECU, rather than the EF. The EFs had coil pack ignition, which will be controlled differently from the EL's distributor ign.

EF ain't gonna work, coilpacks, and EL even is a not-so-good idea without the BBM. When you say EA manifold, CFI or MPFI?? If it's CFI, theres your problem!

The diff gears will be one of the probs. I think EAII had 3.08's, which is no match for the 3.45 gears.
Having the XR6 ECU will help to. But the EL XR6 ECU requires a 3.45 diff, because thats how they are made. If the log manifold you have on now is an 87DA numbered one, it won't help either, you need the later log manifold with 91DA prefix. Unless you got to a BBM.

was it a fresh rebuilt motor ? if so have you run it in ?
gearing would also make alot of difference, the main difference being manual or auto.

i was thinking of converting to manual but unfortuantly cops didnt agree with my old car and gave me 2 canarys in 1 night and im going to court because i tried running third time the lights came on got my car taken off me witch was a drag but i dun wanna spend the money to convert it manual when i wont have my licence long and my sister will be driving it when i loose it and shes got a auto licence so no point but umm yeh i mite just get a bbm and ummm put the el xr6 ecu in also a 9 inch diff running 3.45 could be a possibility

i wouldn't think twice for a reliably sourced 9" for $250, lots of room for safe improvement there.

Also too, the later ECU's ( from EBII on), had Smartlock, so you'll need the smartlock module to run the show. Its easier to stay with the EA ECU.
