Im nearly at the end of refitting the motor into the ute. Ive turned the key to the ON position, you can hear the fuel pump prime, accessories work but no information comes up on the speedo. Try to crank it and it just clicks. Checked all fuses, relays, plugs and its all connected.
With a little more investigation ive found that with the key ON and the car in Neutral (manual), the reverse lights come on, WTF?? Need all the assistance possible as Im so close but soo far. Is there any relearning to do when removing/installing motors in these? Could be a backwards wiring on the gearbox? Cheers, Justin

not sure about your tail lights, but sounds like you may have a dead/low battery, with low charge, your fuel pump will still prime, but not have enough go to kick the starter, resulting in click click click.
Have you check all connection to the cluster? have you changed anything there?

No havent done nothing with the dash, will recheck all my wiring as Ive only disconnected whats in the engine bay. When I crank it theres only a click from the fuse panel on the drivers side under the dash, not the sort of clicking from a flat battery, sounds like a relay clicking. Back to the light issue, when I put it in gear the reverse lights go out and in neutral its on, makes me think wires are backwards.

factory manual too, so no failed resister trick.
Did you pull the gearbox? Neutral switch? Popped any fuses? namely dash or curtosy light ciruits?

Yeah factory manual luckily. With a little more looking, for some reason the speedo just doesnt illuminate, tested it out with another full instrument speedo and that fixed that. (Hooray finally things r looking up) LOL. I did pull the gearbox to do the clutch and machine the flywheel so Im thinking ive mixed the reverse switch and neutral switch up, will try that next. As for the clicking Im not finding anything out of the ordinary.

Troyman you've done it again! Ive found where Ive gone wrong but another little issue, no trigger wire. I cant find a red trigger wire but I have 1 blue & 1 green wire thats in the area of the starter. Any idea if one of those could be the one??

Just an update. Found the red trigger wire after a while of searching, plugged it in and away she went. And the reverse light issue was backwards wiring on the gearbox. Now its time to roadtest it in the morning, hopefully all goes well!
