Alan did you cut some steel to fill in the 2 ends of your cutout? What thickness of steel did you use?

im not sure how much difference there is between the 2 belts ??
but my first au engine used the ef belt with the ef aircon pump, and the vct one i did i used the au vct belt with the ef aircon pump.. so the differences cant be to much?? |

Well considering I have a AU engine in MY NF fairlane, with EF aircon and power steer pump along with AU belt tentioner and balancer, I would have thought I have grounds to say hey they are the same.
But clearly gogetta who has stated that he has not done this conversion, but does intend to do it soon is saying other wise. f**k it I must be wrong because I have first hand experience on the matter! Last edited by XR-Lane on Tue Sep 01, 2009 9:20 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

There is no difference Troy, its clear that we have both proven that with our setups. Mostly your first AU conversion because it was non vct, I would not be surprised if they have the same part number for both. Much like ford using the Z9 oil filter for years. |

well i think gogetta is right as in they are a different part number and possably slightly different in length, but it not that different as in it wont do the job..

They are different i tried to use my ef belt as the Au one was damaged due to the smash it was in and the Ef one is shorter and i was unable to fit it so i tied the AU one which was broken and held it together with the EF one and the Au one is longer but no drama i am going to the wreckers in the morning and will grab one while their but really looking forwards to having a trouble free car for awhile its an old EF but i like it.

I have actually held the two different belts in my hands and there is a definite difference in length...as the alt and ac comp are differet it would stand to reason that the belt length is different...but as u have shown there probably isnt much difference when u use the ef ac comp...

Josh i used 6 mm mild steel plate to close the ends up now i am wondering about the belt ive used the EF compressor without altering the spacers oh well i suppose if i have to when i get back from the wreckers if that belt doesent fit ill take the spacers out and cut them as you suggested in the first place Josh

Well, what can be the difference in the setup then? must be the alternator because the tentioners are the same as is the balancer .
AU alternator must have a larger pulley on it for that to work, But that still does not explain why my AU belt works with a EF alternator |

Your alternator wont be on straight! As I was saying the 2 bottom spacers need shortening as the top one is right, this means your pulley is not where its not ment to be and might be the reason the belt is not going on. Even if the AU belt goes on that does not change the fact your pulley is on the piss and your belt may keep coming off while driving! |

Actualy doesent the AU Altenator sit lower thus requiring more lenght as you had to make brackets for you to use your ef alternator which sits higher maybe?
