oh thanks, he called up saying it was around 78.50 for the parts, so im assuming he isnt replacing the entire kframe or is that how much they come by?

BA doesn't have a 'k frame' it has 2 seperate pieces.
and it depends on what bits broken that determines how hard it would be to replace. the front cross member doesn't require the engine to move, rear one needs the engine to be held in with a crane

Front one is steel and wouldn't take more than an hour or so to replace. You could do it at home if you wanted. Plus I doubt it would break, more bend.
But for the labour $$$, it sounds like rear. Its alloy and I would think easily cracked if you hit a rock. So it would be hold up the engine, suspension out and probably an alignment. Strange its only $78 for the parts though. Very cheap and un-Ford like for such a large part. |

jsut got off the phone with the mechanics at ddeeds aust. and they said the part is 379, they also told me i was lucky to get it changed anyway because theres rust growing on the actual connectors and its getting pretty old and brittle he said. TRUE ? or just a mechanics way of saying "thanks for your business"

Well... You haven't told us whether its the front or rear frame that needs replacing.
Have to assume its the front as its the metal one, so it can rust. The back one is alloy... If they claim thats rusting, I'd be worried. Unless its the rails itself that are rusting... That be bad. Dunno what they mean the connectors are rusting. There are 4 studs that go through the rail and the brace with a nut on the other side. And as I said, its something you can replace yourself quite easily, in an hour. 18mm and 21mm deep sockets are all thats required. Only goes in one way and it self centres. I'd maybe get a second opinion, cos you might be being taken for a ride. |
