ok so i have thrown the belt 2 times before. then i bought a new belt, fitted it.
went to work today. on my way to get some lunch, threw the belt again. got p****d off took it to a mechanic who refitted the belt again. went to start it up, gave it a slight throttle jab to see if it would come off, about 2000rpm. and it fell off again? i have a supercharger EL GHIA. the power steering pump has been relocated to the right hand side. and the belt is a 6pk2635. anyone got any ideas? by the looks of things its slipping of the crank? |

Add another tensioner somewhere. You could change the top tensioner pulley to a flat one and run the belt under it.
If that doesnt help your supercharger is likely out of alignment. Get a straight edge and run it over the pulleys to check. |

It'd be getting a lot of movement across the top one would think, thats a lot of belt with no pulley. |

Yeah it would move a bit.
Mine is similer and wobbled around a bit on the dyno but it doesnt slip or come off. |

yeah everytime i have opened it up the belt has been off the powersteering pump. could i fix that with a wider track pulley.
either way, im just going to throw it at a mechanic tomorrow, shout fix, run away and close my eyes. if you cant guess already im over spending countless hours trying to work the problem out with new belts, trying to align the charger and powersteering pump already. bla bla bla ill just tell him something is badly out of alignment. 4th time its fallen off. only happens when the belt is cold. there must be another system i can employ? tensioner wise. |

i think i mentioned last week in your intercooler thread you should but another tensioner up the up. hope i didnt jinx you haha. when its idling or revv does the top section of the belt slap up and down and vibrate, harmonics could make the belt jump at a certain revv range. as other said maybeput the belt under the top pulley on the tensioner, maybe it possible to swap that ribbed pulley over with a smooth idler?
also try run a straight edge along the front of all the pulleys and look down the line of it to see if a bracket has twisted so a pulley isnt running true to everything else.

can you run the belt on the underside of the upper tensioner pulley? also from the looks ifit you may need to get the pulley wheel machined so it also has groves just like the power steer pump pulley.
To re-route the belt to pick up the upper tensioner you mey need to go longer again.

haha yes it was you!!
bastard. it does give a bit of a slap. but then othertimes its fine. i cant really run the belt directly down under that unused idler because it hits the mounting block of the supercharer. verrryyyyy annoying. its been on there for 6 years, so theres no way he could have been driving around like this for that long. |

also when i look at the crank at idle. it looks like its almost wobbling?
that may just be an optical illusion but it does seem that way. |

HAHAH sorry mate. harmonic balancer aka crank pulley could be how the french say... fukt. pretty sure their 2 piece with internal rubber bush that can flog out on them. maybe try a second hand pulley? or get a solid one?

first thing i would check also id the harmonic balancer.. a fairly common thing for the belt to come off when the harmonic balancer is buggered.. |

yes the harmonic balancers are two piece with rubber in between, and if you dont use a proper puller you will find out that they are rubber in between. i learnt by experience with the harmonic balancer when i changed mine, it was coming apart so flogged it back together.

I reckon we may all be on the money for the harmonic balancer. It does look like it's wobbeling.
I'll Have client at our work (mechanic) to have a look at it tomorrow, and I'll price up a new one. The beauty of working in the auto industry, and it being a falcon is prices are reasonable. Especially when it's wholesale But on that topic what would a new unit cost? Or is it worth going down the scrappers line. |
