OK...I had this problem before I replaced the head gasket...and its stil there after I have replaced the head gasket...

Basically, when Im accelerating, once the revs reach around 3500 RPM, I loose a lot of power....it is really quite noticable when pulling hard...the power just drops a lot after 3500...what would cause this?
I remember reading somewhere, that the BBM changes @ 3500 or something? Is this a sign or just coincidence?

Where might that be?

I dont know a whole heap about the BBM and all that stuff...I can see the little vale thingy move when I rev the engine...

from memory there is a little bell-shaped 'switch' at the front of the BBM with a black vacuum hose attached - which needs to be plugged in for the BBM to switch :?

Yep, thats the one im ralking about...it seems to be moving when I rev the engine, so I assume its doing its job...the lack of power up the high end kills the acceleration...its really annoyihng...

dont think that black little vacuum line at the front does much mine was unplugged probably for a while until i noticed lol, didnt notice any lack of power.

Yes it does thats what moves the butterfies inside the manifold.

There's also the solenoid behind the washer bottle that lets vacuum to the "little bell-shaped 'switch'"

Ok, so if the valve that moves the butterflies is moving, can I assume its doing its job properly...maybe it has nothing to do with my problem?

ANy suggestions what I can do or check?

Look for an air leak on the manifold or throttle body.

Check that all the hoses are connected and not split on the vacuum hoe attachment point.

so it sounds like an air or vaccuum issue?

I double checked all the inlet manifold and TB when I put them back together yesterady after doing the headgasket...might try running diagnostic test, see if that spits anything out...

hmm ...possibility I guess...cause say in 2nd or 3rd after 3500 @ full throttle, as it climbs i feel it "struggle" the power "varies" power comes and goes real quickly...hard to explain...

i had something similar to that after around 3 grand the car lost heaps of power went about 130 flayout but when driving around town it seemed normal unless i put my foot in it. it happened to be the cat it had caved in

hmmm....any easy way of telling if the cat is shot? from what ive read if I give it a thump and it rattles, its shot...

That's one way.
A weird 'hissing' noise when you listen to it with the engine running is another.
Also, have you had the dizzy cap off recently or something like that?
Could be retarded base timing?
I know mine had retarded itself somehow from a loose dizzy cap..
