Very worthwhile mod if you can get it right. yep make sure you cut a big enough hole for engine rocking. Remember reverse makes the engine torque the opposite way.

I will be using a toyota corrolla bonnt scoop. The side profile is very similar to that of the shaker on vegabass car but the toyota scoop is approx 530mm wide and 550mm length front to back.

If all goes well would many people be interested in such a setup for ef/el? I know I can get the scoop easily enough but wondering if I should get quotes now on making multiples of the box

shorter the length of intake pipe will cost low down power, if the car is running a stock cam etc...

The car does have the standard xr6 cam in it, but I am not no fussed about the bottom end because the car will mostly be used on twisty mountain roads where it will be held in gear

For those who are intersted after being stuffed around by my brother inlaw I found another shop to fabricate the induction. I had made MDF mock up to work it all out which slightly changed the design. The filter and the box are offset towards the drivers side but with the scoop covering such a large area it will look fine when its done. So tonight or tomorrow morning I hope to have pictures up as well a possible video as I have a feeling its going to have a loud induction sound with only approx 6 inches for the air to travel

Well I got part of my induction done. These are pictures of the box part of it. The top piece has been cut but wont be welded on until I make sure of its position. I need to chop of the top of the tube to allow the filter to fit snuggley, fit the drivers side mount and notch the front to clear the oil cap

Once its all together I will clean up all the welds the shop did and give it a coat of paint

Looking good there, make sure you drill a few small holes for water to get out as it does get in there. I did thousands of KMS in the rain with no dramas at all. I was running a JMM cam and the induction noise was there but not that loud due to the advanced timing.

PM me your design of how your going to attach the top of the shaker and I can give you pointers or post it here its up to you.

Vegabass the top of the box is a large metal plate. The scoop bolts to it as it did to the bonnet. What sort of filter did you run? as for the what I was planing to instal a hydro static valve to let the water out but not allow anything back in

Here are some pictures of the induction. The box is secure but not the filter which will wait because due to the heat from welding its warped and just needs to be bent into shape. Also the scoop doesnt bolt on yet due to me loosing the nuts for it.

The bonnet needs the hole made bigger on the passengers side of the car so it clears the scoop and box. Here is a very short video of it. hopefully tomorrow I can have the bonnettrimmed and attempt another video.

WOW on so many levels.

That thing is huge. you will need 30mm either side of the scoop for engine torque. Any reason you decided on such a large scoop? Surely a small Hilux one would have been fine?

I used a pod filter in my box, took lots of searching but found it at autobarn.

seeing as you have used a panel filter, holes to let the water out display a problem but its up to you.

The reason for the scoop was that I already had it and I got bored one day and cut the hole in the bonnet. This scoop covers an area just over 2.5 times the size that your sharker did. I am also looking for a pod filter which I havent had any luck with but it looks like I will stick with the standard panel filter for the time being with the possibility of upgrading to the biggest K&n style panel filter I can get which isnt all that much bigger then the current one.

As for movement my partner and I noted that there wasnt as much side to side movement as we thought and the hydrastatic valve idea for the water was suggested many years ago when I was speaking to a shop about replicating a cold air setup I had worked out for my EB entirely out of carbon fibre. On the plus side the intake does hide alot the messy electrical and hopefully the big decrease in engine bay temps I witnessed on my old sedan with this scoop will translate into something I can feel with the seat of my pants with this intake.

Tomorrow if I can get the nuts for the scoop I may take the bonnet off and take it for a thrash and see how it performs and I expect that I will not here any noise at normal driving RPM's just the suction noise at idle.
