hi all,
had a leak from sump bolt, ok cool, got a new bolt and washer from ford did an oil change and its still bloody leaking? what the? if its new it shouldnt leak should it? Kezz

I think its becuase the thread may have been stripped on the sump?? Did the new bolt tighten all the way up?
I am not sure if this is dodgey or not but i have heard of people re cutting the thread on the sump using a tool (forget what its called) and then using a slightly over sized bolt with the same thread.

new bolt went all the way up. i only recently found it cos i lost abit of oil and sourced the leak after neglecting checking my oil level for quiet a time
 . f**k i hate fords at the moment

Just grab a new sump from the wreckers, cant be to much for a EA-ED.

Check the mating surface on the sump is flat. You might have some burrs on there that give it the feel of doing up tight, but it might be slightly off the surface.

Are you talking about the Drainige Bolt??
try coating the bolt in sealant and then tightening it up.. if it continues to leak your going to have to re thread it or get a new sump... Iv seen the same problem with a few E-series cars, the thread just becomes weard out over the yrs |

f**k changing the sump for a leaking plug
If you want a quick fix, put some silicon the bolt. For a proper fix, tap the sump for a bigger bolt.

regarding the quick fix, will the silicon stuff i use on the thermostat housing be alright? on the pack it says its good for the exhaust manifold too

put some plumbers tape on the thread of it, that white thin stuff.
are you sure it's not leaking down and ends up appearing like the sump plug is leaking?

use plumbers tape or stag joining past, unless you get all the oil off the thread silicon wont seal and you will be doing it again, or try any parts suppliers and get an oversized plug which cuts a new thread as you fit it
