ok theres a leak around my master cylinder where it connects into the car if you understand what i mean. fluid has been dribbling down the the black backing and dropped into the engine bay stuffing the paint :evil:
can i repair the leak or is it better to replace?

try another cap,

Mines been doing this for years now. when the fluid level's around 70% full it stops!
when its full(to the line)... the squishes out over time.

but then again, its ur brakes.... replace it with a new one... they're about 140 bux (trade) from most brake places. this way you can have an excuse to bleed the lines and get new fluid into her!

lol its had new fluid in it for about 6 weeks. so you think it could be the cap too? its coming from the back where the cylinder meets the black thing behind it, whatever its called...

lol i knew thats what it was called! wasnt 100 % sure though.
just wondering for a temp solution is silicon a good idea?

ok just to comfirm before i buy a new m/c, if the leak is from where the booster meets the master cylinder its the master cylinder?

Yep!
Unless you can find traces of fluid coming down from the cap. Clean the whole area up first then check it in a couple of days. If you can only find it leaking at the back of the MC then replace or reco the MC.

well if its coming from the centre of the master cylinder IE: inbetween the booster and itself, then its leaking past the piston,
the next step for that then is..... no brakes! untill you pump it a few times to flare out the grommet... Meh, Replace it
