My AU has coolant leaking from either the gasket or the pipe at the back of the water pump?. Is this a known problem with the Au.

I know on the EF there is a rubber seal on the pipe that goes into the back of the water pump. These are supposed to be a common thing to fail after awhile.

it is a common thing an AU,s and Even BA's. To fix it properly u require 2 parts, A new O'ring for the end of the pipe, and a spacer piece ford developed to stop it happening again. The spacer fits in the end of the pipe. I'll get part numbers shortly

Is this a big problem on earlier models (EA-EL) Also? As your Document refers to EA-BA. The reason I ask is that I never had a problem with my old EA leaking here, never even needed to change the waterpump. And I owned it 6 years. However I recently changed the waterpump on my EL, I didn't know anything about a spacer being required, am I likely to have a problem?

yes and unfortunatley i didn't noticed mine until it had corroded enough of the pipe and I had to replace the whole water pump... oh well, all done now and hasn't dropped a drop!!

naa its nowhere near as common on EA-EL's.
If you've recently done it and not used the spacer i wouldnt me too stressed about it as it probably wont leak for many more years again. We're just starting to see AU's doing it alot, but BA's have been doing it alot more as they have a different heater pipe. |

yep. doing heaps of au ones recently. then you run into that nice new problem of ford changing the design of the pump and moving the location of the pipe slightly just to make it that much harder to fit the bastard.

Unless it is a Gen 3 V8 in which case you are wrong about the oil part

the 8's have issues with timing cover corrosion and valley gaskets. if it's a ford it's gonna leak. it's about that simple.
unless you want a full rebuild every couple of years. |
