as the topic says, can this happen? just recently a bit of coolant has been dripping from the car after driving, so i checked it out, and it looks like its coming out of the passenger side of the radiator, the plastic bit, and running down the side into the front bumper, then dripping off..
Does this sound like something that could happen? and if so I guess its time for a new radiator, doesnt look too hard from what ive read in the manual.. thanks |

Very easy to replace.
Check the top hose connector, chances are the plastic has broken where the rubber pipe connects. Also the side tanks fatigue. If you are in need of a replacement, disregard the $140 alloy ones on eBay. Adrad / Natrad and Genuine copper ones are the go.

if its not leaking from where the top hose conects it will have split the plastic join on the end tank, very common for this to happen when they get a bit old. easy as to replace, remove thermo fans, disconect top and bottom rad hoses and header tank hoses undo the two bolts that hold radiator in place and lift it out.

yeah looks like its the side tank, i'll get a new one this w/e, in the mean while will it still be ok to drive? as long as i keep the coolant topped up i guess, its not going down any dramatic amount but i dont want my radiator to explode on the highway or anything haha... i need my car so i dont really have a choice

Turn the expansion tank cap to the second click so its loose and then run engine to operating temp and top up.
That will keep the pressure out of the system and reduce the leak untill you can get a new Radiator. |

ok thanks for the advice guys, i did what you said garsiph, and i also put some shoe goo over the side to try and block the leak for the moment... just one more question, where to get the new radiator from, i imagine ford will be the most expensive? any alternatives, like supercheap, repco etc, just if anyone has bought one recently and can remember the price...thanks

I Get my parts from Coventrys. Try them.
My last replacment radiator was a V8 one for my I6. Cost me $160 and the RRP was $550 or somthing like that. However I have a Trade Account. Just quirey them because they can give super cheep retail. They often give discounts if you give em a sob story. |
