hey all, just have a problem that unvieled itself yesterday, what i have is leaking coolant, and i am not sure where from, well i know where from, just not what is actually leaking, i can only tell position.
i'll put up a pic to help describe the problem in about two minutes, any help would be much appreciated as i'd rather not have to go mechanics.

here's the photo, not very great but it's something.
the leak is coming from where i have circled, but towards the bottom of the engine. This morning it was pooling out alot when idling, and when we have it at roughly 3500rpm it sprays up to the top in a mist. i have had to refill the coolant bottle twice today.. Theres a 3/8th rubber pipe joining the 2 metal pipes together.
One comes from the thermostat and the other comes from the water pump and travels under the exhaust, around the back and under the circled part. The cars like 14years old, and prolly never had this pipe replaced. get yourself $4 worth of 10mm or 3/8th water pipe, remove the old one and replace it with NEW clamps. You only need about 20cms in total. There is also a 5/8 or 16mm pipe that's under there that could be causing the problem, but honestly, god knows how the gas system was installed so I cant tell you where exactly to look. The only way to get to it is from underneath. you 'should' be able to diagnose it within 10 minutes when under there.

yes, do it when its cold.
remove the battery earth also if your going to use spanners etc, as the starter is just there.

That was the first repair I had to do when I got the fairlane. Coolant leaking from that area under the manifold. Turned out to be the U shaped pipe coming from the heater core. It was leaking where it comes up to a plastic coupling ( coupling pushes onto a steel pipe that comes from the water pump). I found it easy to put the car on ramps, chock the wheels and get a good torch and have a look. You will soon see white marks if you are using coolant where the leak has occured. A car of this age will need some coolant hose work. I replaced all of mine for piece of mind but was pricey for the genuine Ford hoses ( the U shape hose being one). Used aftermarket for the majority of the hoses. Don't forget to use a radiator corrosion inhibitor when the problem is sorted.

I point the fault at the ugly rubber pipes under the BBM. So heater hose, small heater bypass hose, heater tap cracked/leaking/dead, U-shaped piece as described by alfy 12 which joins part of the heater core outlet/inlet (I forget which), or thermostat hose to tree which branches out to the above stuff.
If it's any of the hoses, I suggest you replace ALL hoses while you're at it. Will cost a penny, but once you fixed one hose, the system will find the next weakest part and leak from there and so on and so on. It's a pain in the a*** of a job to do, but got to be done some time.

looks like its either the heater tap or the hose end on the tap that's leaking
