Hello all
When i was fixing the leaking welch plugs i had, i was able to have a good look at my water pump. It appears that has been leaking out of the rear seal, the one were the return pipe come in from the rear of the block. This became more obvious when i had filled the cooling system back up after changing the welch plugs, and running the car for 5 - 10 min. So, my question is - Can i fit a new rew seal to the pump? or Do i need to fit a new/reco pump? and what am i looking at spending? cheers coops |

if what your saying is correct and it is leaking from the breather hole underneath the pully then yes you will need to replace the water pump.

you don't mean the black pipe running alongside the block under the exhaust manifold and into the water pump? (heater pipe)

You should be able to pick up a new waterpump gasket and 'O' ring for the pipe from any parts store.
Tip seal the new 'O' ring with a little selastic. At a guess less than $10

to fix this you don't need to take the pump off, recomend you do as you can check its condition and replace if necassary.
but if you don't want to take it off then undo the bolts holding the pipe up i think theres abt 2 then pull it off , remember its connected at the other end so be gentle and more than likely the o ring has worn away and the pipe itself is corroded at the end, you need to get the pipe extension from ford and a new oring and simply put them on with some goo and put the pipe back in.

ive successfully siliconed with no new gaskets a few times with no leaks occuring, just apply generously

I may have to do as DrE has said as a temp fix, as i still have to drive the car to and from work. If i dont, no work = no money to fix car.
I drove it to work today, and fro the 20min trip, it dropped 1 litre of water. Another thing to, sence i have been topping up the water a bit over the last two days, the water itself is a brown and dirty, any reason why?? coops |

is this a problem with all e'series cars,,i never really checked the water pump out that much..

don't loose too much water though - if it leaks out the back of your water pump at that 'o' ring seal - it is dripping right on top of your alternator!!!

water color-the cooling system needs a good flush and some new coolant.
not a problem if you take care of the cooling system.i.e. flush and fresh coolant every 2 years minimum.

Well i just fixed the leak. Just goes to show i am not a retard at fixing things!!!! yay me
The o ring, and heater pipe extension i picked up from ford during the week - total cost $9.50. I did end up pulling off the water pump just to see what condition it was is. For the time being it appears OK. Thanks all for your input. cheers coops |
