hi all
i have just put in a wade 1673 regrind cam in my car !! when i started my car it was cold and no ticking, then i went for a drive and it went good, i pulled over to see how its going, so i popped the bonnet and it was ticking quite loud too, i shimmed each lifter with two shims, the standard ford shims ( i think 1.9mm) so im thinkin i might need more shims, it only ticks when its warmed up so could it be a HLA ?? need help please cheers

How long have you driven it for? It would normally only take 20-30mins to quieten down.
Did you pre oil the lifters? |

ive drove it for about 30 mins and it still ticks but its getting a little quieter,, i didnt pre oil the lifters but they were pretty oily anyway!!
but now ive got a bigger problem !! i think my sump gasket is blown, theres oil on my cat on my k frame theres oil everywhere on the sump , its dripping on the ground, i have no idea where its coming from , i did nt even drive my car hard i have no idea why its leaking oil, surely changing cams couldnt blow the sump gasket

Check the rear of the rocker cover. Most likely coming from there or the timing chain tensioner. Only things you've really touched.

yup i checked the rocker cover its not leaking , im fair sure its the timing chain tensioner cause the oil is all on the side of the block and up towards the power steering pump

your supposed to apply gasket glue to the "half moon" parts of the rocker cover gasket.... thats when you have one in good condition. If its an old gasket, then oil will leak & collect towards the rear.
and if you have removed the outer part of the tensioner, then you need a new rubber o-ring. |

oil leak could be from the tensioner if u didnt replace the o-rings, and put thread tape on the locking bolt in the centre of it too.
also could be leaking from the power steering bracket bolts on the front of the timing cover, they need silicon to seal properly |

nah i didnt bleed the lifters
i didnt take out the 'timing chain tensioner bolt' all the way out i just loosened it and the chain loosened so yea, well tomorrow ill check the power steering pump where it bolts onto the timing cover , hopefully ill find a leak lol

mate any time you do a cam change or pull the lifters out always bleed the lifters it's only a few minutes to do them and saves a lot of stuffing around later..

You didn't remove the tensioner completly during cam change but you backed it off breaking the seal. It needs to be resealed using thread tape. Or a suitable thread sealant.
I doubt the o'ring would be leaking. Possible but unlikely. |
