I've been through the sticky's with no luck and asked this about two weeks ago.....Anyone seen the 4.0 make a Gudgeon pin knock/rattle at 200,000 klms.....I don't even thrash it! Have recently replaced front main seal and cover gasket.....The refitted the cam chain tensioner a few times but still no good.....Even checked pistons with plugs out but could'nt see any t.d.c delay when turning over by hand.....Is either No.1 or 2 cyl???
I reckon it is Gudgeon but just want other experienced opinions.... |

the pins are press fitted so for it to rattle it would have to be broken or somethin else be broken, i dont think that they could wear that much to make the piston or rod loose...

Yes that's tru but im was thinking it still may be worn......Looks like i'm goin to have to pull the front cover of again and check the tensioners

sure you've released the spring?
cant really go from gudgeon pin to chain tensioner, they're far from together! undo a lead when its running you'll find out soon enought if its a pin/bearing.

My bet is piston slap or a bottom end knock. Before we rebuilt the EB I would've sworn the knock was either gudgeon or piston slap...turns out it was bearing knock. Made me look pretty foolish

Damn! I'm just curious as to why it seems to have happened just after changed front main seal and cover gasket.....And 'most' of the 4.0 do alot more kays than 200,000......Not what i need right now Was thinking i might rip head and sump off if it's only a little end and if the bore measures o.k still up i could replace just that rod and possibly even re-use the piston.....Then again for all that may as well just throw a low kay short motor in and use my worked head on that.....???
