hey guys,

yesterday i bought and fitted a rear tail-piece with no muffler, sounds pretty good. my question is, if i take out the second muffler and leave only the first muffler, would it be over the legal limit?

or would it be better to take out the first muffler and leave the second.

any comments would be appreciated

cheers :)

i believe so. effectively you remove almost all of the sound deadening devices.

you car could be over the limit now, i have heard that it can happen removing the second resinator

The Ford OE exhaust system goes as follows, Ex manifold, CAT, 1st Resonator, Main muffler, then 2nd Resonator. For resonable performance, remove 1st & 2nd Resonators, leave the muffler, or replace it with a straight through muffler, but a large volume unit.
I made my own exhaust, works well, bugger-all resonance.

Pretty much any modded exhaust will be over the limit BUT I've got a 2.5" with 1 box and cops dont really look twice.

Its in the spot of the standard muffler, the 2nd box. Taking out boxes really isnt worth the $$ when a brand new 2.5" mandrel bent exhuast can be had for $220 off ebay, and about $300 instores.

I reckon it would be over the limit - having said that though, it's not that bad. I've had 3 systems - 2 with 2 mufflers, and 1 with 1 and the single muffler is a fair bit louder.

Just know how to control the sound with the throttle and you'll be fine.
By that i mean, if u take off infront of a cop, take off gently, use low revs. Works every time!

it depends what mufflers they are and how efficent they are at silencing.
Not all mufflers are the same, every brand is different, and every brand has many different models.

well it sounds alright, its kinda half throbby, half smooth, i opted to stay with 2 1/4'' pipe, because the smaller the pipe the higher the pitch. i can only hear it between 700-1200rpm, and 1700-3000rpm. i might go and cut out the first muffler to make it a bit louder :D lol
