started to lose coolant slowly. roughly the light will come on every 3-5 days.
sometimes more sometimes less. i dont think its an internal leak. as there is visible coolant sitting in the bash plate most mornings. its such a slow weep i cant work out where its coming from? old radiator? cracked overflow bottle? checked bottom and top hoses, thermostat housing. no visible leaks around water pump. overflow bottle doesnt appear to have any cracks around the goose neck what would be the first thing to check. only thing i can think of. is its boiling it and its pouring out of that overflow pipe into the bash plate. although the car doesnt go over A on the scale ( EL FALCON) it is supercharged? so perhaps hotter under bonnet temps could be adding heating the overflow bottle? may sound stupid, but it does get pretty hot under there. |

Change your overflow's cap. +1 i had the same problem, it was the cap not holding the pressure causing it to boil and spew out the overflow hose |

i also got a EL Xr8 around town i it can get to "M" but as soon as the thermo kicks in it drops.
but i had the same problem it was pissing out of the overflow hose.... so i replaced the cap... still did it... looked into it and fond my radiator was blocked.. so put a new radiator in and off i went.. 2 days later slight signs of coolant again.... checked it and my waterpump was stuffed... i would change the cap first being its the cheapest option but then again a new radiator and waterpump are cheap anyway...

Check the radiator end tanks for cracks or a hairline crack as its plastic and could be the reason for it to be losing coolant every 3 to 5 days

i inspected the cap? the rubber seal looks pretty intacted? or doesnt that matter? worth changing the cap still?

Might as well change the cap as that is probably the cause of your coolant loss. If still losing after that get the system pressure tested for leaks. Shouldnt cost very much and will shpw any problems straight away.

the spring in the radiator cap could be gone, meaning it will hold less pressure before it lets the coolant out the overflow hose

1st question: how old is your radiator.
2nd question: have you regularly had the system flushed?? Answers: #1 :anything over 5 years, get a new rad. (fleabay is good) I throw mine away every 2 years if they last that long #2 if never, see above BTW, "A" is too high. |

Also check welsh plugs on exhaust side of block for corrosion, they usually weep causing slow loss of coolant.
