Anyone know where I can get lock nut for AU2 Fairmont/Ghia (75th) from. Last person that worked on it reckons he doesn't have it. Pls if you anyone can help thanks. Ford Penrith says the company that used to make these vanished from the planet so don't know where to find them

There's a bloke on eBay that gets them made for you for $20 or so but he took ages to deliver to me!
They're made in SA and ford should be able to order some for you if you give them the code (which I don't think you have?) that's located on the lock nut key. Only other option is taking it to a tyre joint...

most tire joints have lock nut removers... Some road side assist people have lock nut removers...
Genuine Ford lock nuts are crap anyway... The keys are too soft and they bugger up and wont remove the nuts sooner or later... Better off with aftermarket lock nuts IMHO... Cheers, Tim

That's not what I just said...
Take the car to a tire fitter who has lock nut removers... Remove the Ford lock nuts... Throw away... Purchase aftermarket lock nut set... No aftermarket key will fit your lock nuts... If you don't have the code and ford can't help you the lock nuts themselves are useless... A lock nut remover destroys the lock nuts but gets them off when nothing else will... A set of lock nut removers will be in the many hundreds of dollars range, a good set will at least... Cheers, Tim

haha... well anyone but them then... I snapped one of my old lock nuts in half when removing it a few months back... You have the taper part of the nut and then it goes into the fluted section the key grabs onto... The fluted section undid and the tapered part of the nut stayed on the stud holding the wheel on...
Only had about 5mm of protrusion and the holes in my mags are really really deep... The bridgestone joint here has a set of wurth lock nut removers and they loaned them to me and you pick the right size and using a hammer belt it onto the remainder of the nut and the undo it... The more undoing force you apply the more the removing tool bits in... Was still holding my breathe but because I didn't want to have to cut the wheel off the car... It looked like my old lock nuts were substandard and soft to break in half the way it did... Supposed to be Gorilla that I imported from the states, I feel they were knock offs... This time I bought Gorilla from here in Australia and spent the big money (old set were about $40 for 20 lock nuts (full set) while this set were about 70 to 80 bucks for 4 lock nuts)... And so far so good with the new nuts... Cheers, Tim

Yeah I wouldn't bother getting a genuine lock nut key due to what's already been said, they break very easily.
I broke one getting a set of genuine Tickford rims off an AU wreck which couldn't be driven/moved otherwise I would've just gone to a tyre joint! I take it to a few tyre places first and see what they say before buying a new key mate, good luck..

You can do this at home if you have a decent set of deep sockets. You will need the double-hex (12-point) sockets; just try different sizes until you find the one the sits part way down the taper of the lock nut. Whack it on mercilessly with a hammer, and the 12 points will bite into the lock nut - which will definitely be softer than a decent socket. Then just remove like any other nut, but apply twist gradually, and keep pressure on the lock nut - you don't want the socket to slip on the nut; it's harder on a second go. Lost my lock nut key (think I left it on one of the nuts - d'oh!) and managed to get all four of the old nuts off in about ten minutes.
