you can check the connector that goes to the coilpack, or it could be a bad coilpack, or leads, or plugs.

Tried known good leads and still no spark from the coil. I checked the connector and it does seem to be a slight bit brittle. Also why would only 5 and 6 be out if the connector is faulty?

Im not sure about the EF coil pack but they usually have a switching circuit under the coil pack. So it may be that part for the coil that does 5 & 6

just having a look at the circuit diagram and plugs 5&6 come off different coils and there is no circuit under the coils they get thier signals direct from the EEC module

No thats not necessarily what I'm saying. But as far as my manual shows the coil pack is just that coils only. I just wanted to stop you rushing out and buying a coil pack on my say so. I think you need to talk to some one like an auto electrician. I take it you have changed the plugs.
The coil system is a funny system the coil output side has a plug on each end and the plug that fires is the one in the cylinder with compression only. I have read about it on the net some where. I apolagise if I have misled you.

OK thanks. There are a couple of other parts that could be causing the problem. He might run an EEC check and see if there are any fault codes to help diagnosis

Have you tried swapping a couple of the coil packs over? If the problem follows that particular coil pack then your coil pack has surely had the penis. If the problem stays with cyls 5&6 with a different coil pack then it's something in the wiring or ECU.
