I was driving my EB II in the water today and there were alot of puddles and as i entered my street the car began to struggle so i put my foot down a bit more then "BANG" under the bonnet white smoke/ or steam was coming out so i shut the car off (as it didnt die with the bang) i had a look and couldn't see anything serious.
Started the car back up and since it was on my street i drove 20km/h to my house and it seemed fine ! What does it mean ? Did i blow something and can i still drive it ?

Ok i think the engine back fired because the two clips i had left on the air filter housing one was bent and the other one was near the radiator and where the snorkel mouth bolts down one of the locations snapped and has been separated from the mouth !

if you were driving through alot of water ??
i would say your dizzy or coil got wet which caused the car to struggle and when you put your foot down it backfired through the intake..(which explans the smoke) when you went back the dizzy was probably dry and the car should have gone back to normal... |

Is it on LPG? Sounds like an LPG backfire to me.

Definately a gas backfire then.
Check that your plugs and leads are in really good condition. This helps stop the backfires. You can get a set of spring clips off ebay to replacethe standard air box clips for about $22. The idea is they give when you get a backfire so the airbox doesnt blow apart.

It shouldnt have done any permanent damage, especially if the car now seems fine to drive.
Might want to check all your intake tubing, the pcv valve on top of the rocker cover and the map sensor hose to make sure they havent split.

I'd say a bigish backfire due to water arcing across leads or something. the two tricks cabbies use are either an occy strap over the box or get a hole saw and a rubber gromit from clark rubber.
Might still be worth just checking over the coil and dizzy and TFI just to make sure they're not on the way out

With Gas powered check you have a steel PCV valve. The early engines had a plastic one that cracks and drops the contents into your valve gear then jams your cam shaft and destroys your engine.... Very expensive. Happened to my XG Ute
