I have a 6cyl EL Fairmont and the low coolant sensor comes on even tho the coolant level is full. If I am driving and I swurve to the right the light goes out then after a bit it comes back on. Is there a way of disconnecting the sensor so the light does not show on the dash with out removing the lamp. I tried to remove the sensor with out any luck it seems to be seated very tight. Can there alos be a easier way to remove the sensor to check it?

I'd say replace the sensor, I wouldn't dare disconnect it, as it saved my car today (it's just done the head gasket).

They tend to stick or even partially break as they are only a switch on a pivit. It needs replacing - they are hard to get out. There is a round piece you have to unscrew that has some holes in it. I placed a philips head screwdriver in them and gave it a tap with my hand until I worked it loose. Once you get that out then you need to pry the rubber seal out that surrounds the switch.
Hope this helps Stan |

You can buy the float by it's self part number AU10F888A around $25 and u will need a 84AG17673AA grommet which is around $7. If u have the cash just get a new switch EA10K888A which are around $60. I got microcat at home these prices are from December catalog waiting for February dvd to come out.

Just fix it, its a great safety feature. If you unplug it, the bulb will flash all the time anyway!

Clean the sensor, There are little metal spots that fill with crap and keep the circuit open that illuminates the light. The float can also decay and fill with water and cause the light to be inaccurate. Take sensor out of tank have someone sit in the car and look at the light and open and close the switch to verify its operation. You need it dont take it out. It can save a headgasket!
