Hey guys my car was really really low on petrol and as I came into the petrol station it was shaking, when I filled it up it went like it was full but only came up in the car as 3 quarter tank (filled ~60 litres)

Is there a reason why could anything have f**k up? :?

Thanks,
Luke.

Sounds a bit weird...

Has anyone ever noticed that the less petrol you have, the more economical the car is???

For example if I let the XR run down to a tick over empty, cosption seems to slow considerably. When I fill it up to half a tank (who the hell can afford to FILL the tank??? ) it seems to suck juice like a b**ch!

My xh works the other way; once it gets to half a tank the second half seems to dissapear real quick. I think its because the tanks are not perfectly symetrical. I also ran my EB real close to empty and it took three or four refils before it was accurate again. Maybe the sensor got stuck?... Dunno but it works alright now 8-)

downingj, my car does this too....

i think its a gauge prob tho, put 1/2 tank in and 100km later its near the orenge, but just stays there for ages, then the "oh oh" light comes on...

but alas i no longer have this problem, got my gas refitted and tuned...hehe 50c a litre...yay

Does the falcon tank in the EBII's have a reserve amount of fuel, like to add onto the 68 litres? because afew weeks ago, i was sitting on 1/4 tank, went to fill, and put 65 litres in..................... :?

The EF/EL's use a 'buffered' reading on the fuel gauge - this is to give a constant reading despite fluctuations or movement of fuel in the tank - e.g. during cornering, stopping, etc. The cluster reads the fuel level after IGN is switched on, and compares to the level read before the last IGN off. The gauge will not move to the new level unless the difference is significant - 7L or more in the upper half, or 15L or more in the lower half. This might explain why the pointer seems to move slower in the lower half readings.
You can put the cluster in diagnostic mode: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=12 and compare buffered fuel levels to the raw ones.

No they don't, looks like you may have been at a dodgy pump. A couple of months back I put 74 litres into my 72 litre tank it was also on 1/4 before I filled up.

More believable, this week the gauge was in the red zone with the warning light on and it took 66 litres to fill it.

Its a ixture of both. I think IIRC that the pumps only give out 990mL instead of 1000mL. I also what i do after putting petty in is turn it to II then off then back to II and it goes to where its supposed to straight away.

So after IGN on how long before it updates?

If you reckon you are getting ripped off by a dodgy fuel bowser take a container of known quantity down there (like a 5 or 20 litre jerry) and test it. Servos are allowed some error but not much. If you see a problem contact the ACCC. They love to nail servos for this s**t
