Hey all,
I have 93 ED classic on LPG and Petrol, sitting at the end of my intake pipe from the airbox is a little silver ring which i think is the mixer (there is a tube running to the LPG converter from it). I have heard from the local ford parts dealer who owns similar car on gas that there can be noticible power gains by getting a "less restrictive" mixer? Is this true? My car is lucky to get from 0-100 in 11 seconds and thats after I added XH snorkel and 2.5" exhaust. This is on both petrol and LPG, and is incredibly dissapointing!! Mind you it did make a loud bang once, where later I found out the intake pipe had blown off the throttle body and during the time from the bang to the time I looked under the hood and re-attatched it, it went like the clappers!!!!!! sounded great too! I guess the only problem there was that the engine was breathing filth for an hour or so. Anyway, are there less restrictive mixers out there? or should I get used to reading the paper whilst my car attempts to gain speed? |

Alright cool,
My next task is to remove the mixer and take photos. I'll also measure the inner hole. Right now its incredible dark and cold outside so i'll do that tomorrow morning. Will there be much of a performance difference with a bigger or less restrictive mixer? thanks for the prompt reply aswell!! |

man the thing i'll need to know is do you have a
complex converter and a simple mixxer or a simple converter and a complex mixxer how to tell if you have a simple mixxer (there shouldn't) be any adjustments on a simple mixxer how to tell if you have a complex mixxer (there should) be a mixture adjustment nobs oh and what kind of converter do you have ????? impco??? O.M.V.L ???? Vialle??? lovato?? landi?? tartarini ?? or a optimat???

Hopefully the photos I take, will help the identification of my mixer and converter. I will also post markings and stuff from both of them.
I think my converter is nearly dead due to backfiring and poor performance on gas so maybe I should look at a different combination>?? |

I'm guessing it's just a simple ring mixer, similar to what I had, between TB and intake piping.
There'll be a 'cup' in the middle of the ring, where the gas is injected into, the bottom of the 'cup' facing the airflow. As the air goes past, the gas is sucked into the airstream. That 'cup' in mine was literally shaped like a cup (not aerodynamic at all), and was reeaaally restrictive (probably took up 30% of the total area). I dropped a second at the drags when I took my mixer out, on petrol obviously

Replaced my plugs two weeks ago. Have ordered new leads, they say they will be there in 2 days and am looking at buying K + N filter soon. I didnt mention my car was on gas when getting the plugs though. THe lady asked when I ordered the leads if it was on gas and quoted 92 for the leads instead of 75 for petrol. Should I get different plugs? The ones I have are NGK standard petrol plugs for ED falcon. Could these factors play a large role in my ridiculously sluggish car?

plugs should be hotter for gas then petrol
petrol plugs should be colder

Hi All,
Just took everything apart around the intake area and took some shots of my mixer and converter. Judging from the photos I think my mixer is definately restrictive. Here they are

it's unlikely you'll get much more power just with a plug change, but you will at least have the right plug for your car, i think lpg plus are the same as xr6 plugs plugs and leads are the 2 things that have to be in top condition to stop lpg back firing and blowing your inlet ducting apart IMHO k+n filters are over rated and over priced, i wouldn't waste my $$$ on one there is info here, do a search for it, on restrictive mixers on lpg cars |

with that converter you can get away with a less restrictive mixxxer go to your wreckers and ask for a spud or ring type gas mixxer (i recomend ring type) with around 40-45mm inner hole and you should notice the improvments mite cost you $30-40 second hand

Ok,
So using a different mixer wont effect LPG fuel economy or anything? From the looks of my mixer it almost seems to have been MADE to stop airflow!! |

to point bagger all anyway
it's made to create low air pressure The pressure drop caused by the venturi encourages the gas to flow through the tube
