I jacked up the back of the car and spun the driver side wheel and the other side turned in the same direction which means it's an LSD.
I then looked underneath at the tag and it said STD and in bigger letters 14AA. What does this mean? I thought it was meant to say LSD if it was? Also, sometimes both wheels spin, sometimes just the right and sometimes just the left. (Don't flame, they were done in safe and controlled conditions ). |

Well then what's mine? Both spin the same way but the tag has STD on it and I can't see LSD printed anywhere. What's STD meant to stand for?

Maybe ur diff is stuffed , my ef gli diff use to spin both wheels and it was 3.08 single spinner ,

Yeah I've been thinking that STD stands for a standard diff but when turning the wheels they both turn in the same direction? If I had a single spinner and it was worn then it would just slip and the other wheel wouldn't even turn.
So how come they're both turning the same way if I possibly have a standard diff? |

I'm pretty sure LSD or not if u have both wheels off the ground and turn one the other will also turn

probably wrong but just an idea. What if a previous owner stuck lsd gears into a standard case.Is that possible?

Funny you say that because I was just talking to a mate and he suggested the same thing. It could be true I'm not sure.
How does an LSD behave when turning? Because sometimes I get my left wheel spinning, sometimes right wheel and sometimes both? Is that how an LSD works? And do single spinners only ever spin the right when turning? Why's my diff so damn confusing lol. |

MY housing say 3.27(of some s**t like that) STD. but its a 3.45 with a true trac centre.. Thanks Matt!!

In the wet u know u have an LSD in the a***, driving my xr6 compared to ef gli, the ef would kick out side ways and stay there but the xr6 goes out comes back in the goes out again does that a few times then straightens up.

If your sometimes turns both the same way and at other times opposite then maybe your cones are worn out???

When it's jacked up always turns both same direction. Also I was thinking maybe getting 3.70 or 3.90 ratio for a quicker acceleration. What other benefits will I get with this and what will I lose in (high end acceleration etc.)? And is it as simple as just switching out the gears? Will other work need to be done? |

your benefits will be a higher fuel bill.
but yea faster off the line. and i heard somwer that the standard diffs (std) in these newer cars can somtimes put power to both wheels. could just be a stuffd diff too lol.
