Hi, got a crow cam installed in my 1998 XH Ute on Tuesday & i have been doing some serious overtime with my mechanic till all hours of the morning to try & get rid of the lumpyness of it go away. What's wrong with a lumpy sounding 6 cylinder Ute u may say, no matter how much i advance or retard the timing it still runs lumpy & lacks all power (standard cam is much more faster than crow). The mechanic used to be an apprentice for John FAwkner racing so he knows his s**t.

My car was built in February 1998 & apparently fitted with a AU series one head for testing purposes before bringing out the Au series engines so it isn't an EL engine at all. MOre like a cross bread between a AU & EL.

I am taking cam out & putting standard cam back in so i can sell it. So give me a tingle if you want to buy a smart looking XH Ute. E-mail address is scootin_24@hotmail.com

Thanks GUys. any ideas what the hells going on.

P.s The HArmonic ballencer was a tad out but still didn't make any difference.

Yeah, the AU rockers are a different ratio, there is prob your problem.

Also, try changing your TPS and crank angle senser.

Very interesting. i have the same issue with mine. Its so lumpy the entire car rocks and hunts for idle something chronic!! I'll be keeping the cam though when the ECU gets replaced and in the meantime going to purchase the new 1636 grind and go back to that.
