OK, i have finished and completed the Serp and BBM conversion on my ED, i had it idling so i could purge the coolont system, and slammed the bonnet shut.
Then all of a sudden she died and magic blue smoke appeared. It cam from the batter and had shorted a wire near this. I appeasr to be a fuseable link, and is seized shut. ANy ideas what it is or does???

if the car cranks over.. its either fuel pump or ecu fusable link..
can you hear the fuel pump prime?? |

Pump does not prime, removed the header tank to check the fuel pump relay, and discovered the relay next to it separated from its holder. I also has a burn mark on it on the top edge.
Any ideas, and anyone got one??

It was both, the green and brown, as well as when the smoke appeared, the fusable link. Continuity testing showed the Fusible link to have lost continuity, and both the bren and green relays had broken in half, fortunately the Blue car provided both replacement relays.
I simply cut the fusable link off, and ran 2 wires directly to the battery, problem solved. Thnaks for the input guys, all good now Brett

hi
Its not a good idea to remove the fusiable links all together as they are their for when their is a short they do what they did melt and go open circuit so now if u get a short they well melt the harness |

why did they let go? did it short out on the bonnet or something when u closed it?

aparently the ecu relay had come apart and had dropped down and earthed out on the inner guard blowing the fusable link..
im pretty sure the wire to bypass the fusable link is a temporary solution to get the car running again.. |

Yep, some 15amp fuses will replace teh fusable link, She runs and runs well. Last to do is wire in the BBM solenoid and then the conversion is done.

oh ok fair enough well i would suggest that you put new fusible links back in instead of fuses simply for the slow blow factor i went through this in my 260z. ?You would be surprised how many people just wire it straight up and think it is perfectly fine.

the problem would be you would need too make them up.. as afaik they are not available from ford anymore..

Yer didn't think of that I work at an auto elec in mackay and we make them up all the time so i would think any good auto elec could make them up pretty easy
