i took the timing chain and gear off today to clean it upo and i noticed theres some slack in the timing chain idler gear, it moves say 2-3mm from side to side but does not have any slack up and down,,, im pretty sure this connects to the dizzy and oil pump
Should i be worried, or do a shell be right

there is no bearing on the AUX shaft and either end. if there is play like you describe, the block is worn.
It will also be causing misalignment of the dizzy drive gear. this is a big deal and the oil pump is driven from the bottom of the dizzy shaft. and it take a fair bit of power to drive the oil pump. (a large electric drill will struggle to turn it over enough to make 15psi) Be %100 sure before you reassemble every thing. |

so basically is it the end of the world or could i make like a steel bush on the gear end to hole it in the right position??
heres a quick vid of the situation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9T-TPMGlsM

you really need to remove the AUX shaft to determine if it the end of the world. IF the block is worn it would mean stripping and boring over size and then having a bush made for it.
It would be cheaper to get a other engine. |

hmm well if it is worn i guess i could make a bearing setup for the front of it hard yes but doable

i was thinking more along the lines of i make a bracket to use the existing Hex bolts on front of block to hold a bearing so the aux shaft stays in the right place

considering the price of wreckers engines, i'd just be getting another engine.

this thread could be consolidated into "Things that annoy you"
ok basically whats the go with setting new blocks up , i mean i can use the existing pistons and crank from this engine so 1. new rings 2. new crank bearings 3. new bigend bearings 4. ????

Wrecker up this end does complete AU engines for under $500. Might be worth a look.

Or mod the front of the AU sump to clear the k frame. EF/EL Sump 'WILL NOT FIT AU ENGINE'. Why do you think people pay $120 plus to have a sump modified of modify their K Fame to fit an AU Engine to their EF/EL's if an EF/EL sump would fit. AU sump won't fit and that means that the Timing Case won't fit either. |

looking at the shaft movement, i wouldnt bother with that engine,
you can get a sleeve put in the block, but you also got to look at, if or how much fine metal has gone through the engine?? as others have mentioned you can go with a low km au engine or even a good second hand ef/el engine, repairing that just looks like more trouble than its worth. |
