Hi there folks, I am having a problem with my EF i6 (wagon)
I have: replaced the injectors, replaced the fuel pump, replaced the fuel filter, done an engine diagnostic and turned up code #411, which is "failed slow idle test" so replaced the ICU with another, retested and no code, so presumed fixed. The problem I am having is that the engine seems to be hunting at idle. I have had a timing light on it, and the timing seems to be jumping around everywhere, from retarded to way advanced at idle. It seems to settle down at revs though. I have tried to do a base idle adjustment, but the engine wont idle with the ICU disconnected. The rest of the problem is that it is hard to start. It might take up to 3 goes before it fires, and then smells really rich. I have checked for vacuum leaks, inlet duct leaks, but I haven't vacuum tested the engine. I am thinking it the problem may be ECU related, or maybe the cam angle sensor? If anybody can offer ideas, please do so, as I am at my wits end |

Have you cleaned or replaced the crank angle sensor? just above the harmonic balancer.

neither of those has been done, I will try them next. The O2 sensor is as old as the car and ahs done 340k kms, and I will clean the crank sensor. can't do it until the w/end though, so hang in there for progress reports

I have been thinking along the same lines, mrmivec69, as the ECU controls the spark advance etc. Even in learn mode, the timing was erratic, so again, I am thinking ECU. I am having issues with the BCM as well: key on, no start, tap the dashboard above the knee stuff
Anybody in Melbourne wanna lend me an ECU (or got a spare one??) (Wagon ECU) |
