hi guys i have a Au Falcon V6 i know there probably a thread which i couldnt find on this but im asking anyway i put a de filippo system on great exhaust system i have the 2 1/2 inch right through with both mufflers extractors and performance cat back with the oval exhaust tip,i also had a big mouth CAI put on the same time this is about 3months ago - it gets a nice tune but its not as deep as i would like it to be my mate just had his car done he has a stock standard exhaust system but he took the rear muffler out of it and has the shotgun look it sounds deep and mean his is also a V6.
*i am just wondering if this would greatly improve the sound that she gets out? *is it legal to remove the rear muffler? *Does exhaust tip have anything to do with sound? cheers russell |

well for one yours is not a V6 at all, its an inline 6 or i6 for shorthand. If your mates is a 3.8 I think it would be a commodore motor then? If so it will naturally sound different.
You really could get away with only one muffler- that will help make the system sound deeper. Tips do make some difference depending on size, depth, shape, and also material used in construction. You could always try a resonator, but I suggest talking to an exhaust specialist for specifics. This here is a guide only.

what is a resonator? yeah it is - a few people have told me to remove the 2nd exhaust cause it quietens it down alot - i was just expecting more of a deep growl from it after going right over it and people have just said its the second muffler stopping it - i honestly dont know much about exhausts

get a redback rear exhaust pipe, the one with no muffler

judgin so far idont think you should be working on a car if you u think your car is a v6 and u dont know what a resonator is, i dont think you searched hard enuff bud.

Leave the guy alone, bloody hell!
Lose the rear muffler/resonator - your car will be louder and deeper. As for the tips, I have been through many different exhaust tips, and as a general rule, yes they can slightly change the note of your exhaust - basically the bigger the tip, the deeper the noise, but it really isn't much of a difference. For a bit more noise, you could cut a hole in your airbox, which while probably doing very little for performance, it will give you a much louder induction noise. |

Thanks Private9 - i got a quote today of $60 to do the hotdog with a chrome twin dumped exhaust tip (as the exhaust place refered it as) - so i'm looking for a few more quotes but it seems decent since its $50 just for the tip

I gotta' say it... again... V6? Just letting you know that it's an i6 buddy.
Like EBXR8380 said, the bigger the diameter of the pipe, the lower the note. That's why for example a WRX rally car has such a high pitch note whereas a ricer WRX has a lower note... It won't do your performance or pocket any good but if you really want a low note then get a full mandrel bent 3" system with one muffler and no resi.
