the internals are ok as long as they are in good nick. a shagged motor wont last long with any sort of abuse, let alone revs. the au pistons are smaller and weigh less than the e-series ones, and generally has a little more rev freindliness about it when comparing stock v stock. The valvetrain is where you will run into problems. got this from a web article from back in the day:

The crankshaft is a new, stiffer yet lighter, 8-counterweight design with some technology input from Jaguar. The inherent balance superiority of Falcon's in-line 6-cylinder layout over V6 means that the complication of balance shafts is superfluous. Engine durability is afforded with new design silicone gaskets sealing the camcover and the sump pan as well as a triple-layered steel head gasket. The steel gasket helps reduce noise and emissions by minimising bore distortion and crevice volume and improving piston ring seating. Pistons are low clearance and are a lighter, shorter skirt design with a teflon-based coating and low tension rings for reduced friction. Their connecting rods are also new and lighter.

Just one last question can the au rods and pistons work with the el crank ?

Balancing and minimal rotating mass.
Also there is no point in revving your engine to those speeds unless you have cam/headwork to suit, which will mean that you will have to rev it to these speeds to get it to perform. Just something to think about it you are building a streeter.

At the last AFF drag meet my EF 6cyl was reving to 6000 to 6500, that's 340,ooo klm Rods, Pistons, Crank.... Although it was rebuilt 20,ooo klms ago but as Rods, Pistons, Crank were in perfect condition I just re-used them.
No adverse effects to my engine. It wasn't by choice I reved that high as my ecu tune made the auto shift above 6000rpm....

Why do you want to rev it that hard it won't be making any more power at those revs. Speedway is different they tend not to change gear & quite often a 3 speed & run 2nd gear. I used to run a 4 speed & run 2nd with a 308 diff. That was with a 302 Clevo. Regards TPVM.

The OP wanted to build and engine that can do trackwork, which is why he wants it to rev a bit more. With adequate headwork, valvetrain and camshaft it will. My au see's high rpm occasionaly (limit is set to 5800) completely stock internaly. Definately feels like it has more capacity to rev freeely than the EB2 I used to own. Gets to the redline very easily in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, slows up a bit in 4th, and by 5th its having to pull. Im running 3.89s, and it feels like top end work would really go down well. If it could be made to make power to 6000 with a 6500 limit I would be one happy camper, but being a uni student puts constraints on development budget.

In the brief time I had the AU XR motor in mine (mild headwork, 125lb springs, stock cam), it revved hard to the 6k limiter, and with a decent cam it'd pull another 500rpm+ easy.

Some thing no one has mentioned & I presume you where going to any way is to use a BBM manifold
from an EF, EL. With an EL computer and BBM contoller, and a chip of some sort.

standard bottom ends are tough
ive had mine at 600rwhp and 6700rpm to gett across the line at the strip with out limmiter... with good rods the ba-fg turbo guys are going to 8000+
