Howdy
I am having a hard time finding out which cam i should put in my car. Car- late 97 el xr6 5 speed manual, original 3.45 lsd, 138,000k's Current mods- Pacemaker extractors, high flow 2.5" cat, 2.5" mandrel cat back, k&n panel filter. with these mods the car ran a 14.807 @92.21mph. Planned mods- slim chance of headwork down the track but don't factor this in as its only a slim chance. What i want from the car- Enough power to get into the lower half of 14's. Driveability is not a problem (car is only used on weekends). QUESTIONS: 1. So which cam do you recommend taking in the above criteria? 2. In the cam's spec list for the 2222543 crow cam it says computer re-calibration is required. does this mean a chip or just re-setting the ecu? 3. What other components need/should to be changed when swapping a cam? valve springs, lifters?? I am open to the option of getting a cam which requires a chip (not really on a tight budget at this stage) but i would definately like to see the comparison for a cam that requires a chip and one that doesnt. ANY help is much appreciated!! Thanks. Damien

I'm seriously doing something wrong when I went to the drags I only got 15.5 pass and I've got the same mods as you. Do you want to run my car down the drags for me? LOL
Who is carrying out the work on the car? If you haven't got an idea yet I'd liket o recommend Hi Tech Cylinder Heads in Malaga. Top quality work friendly service and good prices. I would recommend you get them to do some porting and stuff. Tony can recommend a cam for performance as well. Valve springs are a must when changing the cam especially with those Ks. Get the right springs for the cam you choose. Lifters change as well. Got any pics of your car? |

To be honest i haven't started looking at a workshop yet, I was hoping to be able to do the work myself and with a mechanic mate (he has a valve spring compressor etc) but this is only going to be possible if the ecu doesnt need adjusting i guess. I might give Hi Tech Cylinder Heads a call tomorrow and get some pricing on headwork, i guess getting a package deal (headwork and cam) would lower the overall price rather then doing them at seperate times... Ive attached a pic for your viewing pleasure haha some more can be seen here: http://www.pertheseries.com/forums/inde ... topic=5688 oh and here is a vid of the 14.807 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc3AG5qoZP4 Thanks alot Timmeh!
