I'm thinking of getting a BA (xt or xr6) and wanted to know if there is a big difference 0-100 or quarter mile time between manual and sequential gear change. Some people are saying semi-automatic is faster than the manual whilst others say otherwise.

In the BA Six the 5 speed manual will be much quicker in the 0-10k and qtr mile no question.
Not many manual XT or XR6's about though. |

the auto XR6 Ts are faster, but the manual n/a's are quicker than the autos afaik...

Thanks for the inputs, i'll have to test drive and see what differences to expect. I would get a manual but like jonbays said, they're hard to come by

having driven both extensively (i work at a dealer) i would buy the sequential auto almost every time... im normally a manual person but im really not impressed with the T5 box slotted into a ba.. the shift quality and stuff is all no where near on par with newer manuals, esp the T56. By all means drive it for yaself and decide, but thats my 2c

There's a 03 BA XR6 mercury silver, manual, premium sound with low low km's (I think it has 28k) for $28,000 or a auto 03 XR6T citric acid for $29,000 near me. Which one would you choose when comparing pices?

i cant talk on the BA thing as ive only driven a XT auto. but i can speak on the manual thing.
everyone thinks of the manuals as being faster, but they dont consider the fun factor, turning onto a short street and neglecting to change gear just hear the car scream (best done on exhausted cars...lol). a manual will always out brake an auto, of the same speck, due to compression braking. and on an exhuasted manual sounds soooo much better due to the ability ro compession in all gears and getting that sweet "snap crackle pop" sound. |

Ok, well ive heard BA manuals arn't the best, if i were to go the auto, i suppose i could always convert it to a decent manual gearbox. Also, for the post about getting an xr6t, i'd prefer to get the xr6 and put in a turbo afterwards.

i have driven a 5spd xr6 ute (n/a) an auto xr6 sedan (n/a) and two different auto xr6t's... obviously apart from the extra power of the turbo, i would choose the manual, as i prefer to drive a manual car, although the tiptronic is alot of fun, the novelty soon wears off... i am yet to drive one of the new T56's, but hopefully thats not to far away..
oh an dont bother turboing an n/a, just buy the turbo from the start, its not worth the stuffing around imo...

personaly, when you all say that the manual's have more control because you can have it in any gear and use the compression to slow it down and out brake an automatic is stupid, because in any automatic when you are slowing down you can lock it into gears but especily with the BA automatic's if you have it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th (sports mode) you can then leave it in any gear and it will never change up or down gears on you, you can have it banging on the rev-limiter and it still will not change gears.
