So, my EBII is having a terrible time with fuel consumption (you dont want to know..) and rough idle, puffing out smoke like a chimney.
Ive decided to attempt to replace the MAP sensor and will head out soon to go buy one. So, how do i go about this? Yeah, i already know where it is located and that ive gotta unplug and unscrew it, but is there anything in a specific order i should perform prior? Eg - Unhook neg battery terminal etc.. Quick replies would be incredible right now Thanks guys! |

Dont need to undo the battery. Just take the key out unplug it all and replace it. Ive done mine like that and have not damaged anything.

Alright, shall do, thanks mate
Hopefully this is the source of the problem, my mechanic (who is a bit of a Ford nut) said that it probably is, so i'd rather do it myself than have him charge me double for the same thing. |

Running like s**t and blowing black smoke may indeed be the map sensor or maybe a dodgy fuel reg also.

Also check the hose that goes on the bottom of the map sensor to the inlet manifold. If it perishes and cracks over time it will cause the map sensor to get the wrong readings.

Well im hoping that this solves my problem. After installation, i might take it (its unregistered) for a squirt down the road and back, just to see what its like in terms of fuel usage. Be pretty easy to tell if its overfuelling still.

Good sometimes the rubber goes brittle and cracks.

Check the ECU isnt in LoS mode. Put the key in ON and make sure the fuel pump only primes, does not run flat out. If its the latter, replace the ECU.

Well if the car is running better you would notice the improvement. No black smoke, better idle.

Well, no black smoke, just white smoke, but i think the car just needs a decent run (plus its a ridiculously cold 10*c outside..)((PLUS it has a hole in the muffler that is being replaced when i get a car stand))
Ah well, ill see what happens |
