Which brand of mechanic's tools have you guys found to be better?
Stanley, Sidchrome, Bosch, others? Don't worry about the cost, I am looking to buy a good set that will last a lifetime.

I use Snap-on 1/4" Sockets , Kincrome Spanners and Sidchrome 1/2" Sockets.
Nowadays I purchase Kincrome as they're easily obtainable. I'll also buy older Repco tools as they're very good. I swear by my snap-on's but wouldn't purchase them because of price.

Snap On are the shiznit, followed by Sidchrome and Kincrome IMO.
A Snap On ratchet costs more than a full Sidchrome socket set though lol. |

There was a good thread about this I think in off-topic about a month ago...if i come across it I will post up the link.
Any of the major brands which offer lifetime warranty and (which will generally be) made from a chromium/vanadium alloy and drop forged (in the case of spanners etc) are your best bet. When going for sockets it may sound obvious but go for 6 point varieties over 12.

I have Stanly balack anodized sockets in 1/4 and 3/8.
Kingchrome sockets in 1/2. Performance tools ratchet spanners in both imperial and metric( got them from summit, well worth the cost). All my allen keys and torx bits are from REPCO and my screwdrivers from Supercheap. Does my needs well. Really rate the perfomance tool stuff though. Brett

Ive got a mixture of tools. I use stanley screwdrivers, they arent too bad, not as good as the older ones though. I dont know if you guys have Genius Tools over there or not, i use there sockets and rachets extensions etc, good quality tools and pretty expensive. Then its a mixture of all sorts from there on.
My old man has quite a collection though, about $20,000's worth lol, T&E, Snap on, sidchrome, stanley, KC tools, a couple of JBS tools which he got not long ago and a couple of other american branded tools, all the expensive s**t . Doesnt even use half of them most of the time but its good to know you have the right tool for the job if you need it Id stick with good quality lifetime warranty stuff, if you use the tools for heavy jobs and something goes wrong and it breaks you got the warranty to cover it lol |
