I beg to differ

I get my Motorcraft Filter one at Auto One Store

well they must buy them off Ford then resell them.

Auto One Stores are shifty aren't they?

As to the oil filter debacle. When I first got the car, I did oil and oil filter change every 5000-10000kms for the first year (about 4 changes in that year). Since then I have changed oil every 5000km and oil filter every 10000km. Haven't had engine issues so far (besides electrical...which is not oil related :P). Yes, $10 is cheap for an oil filter, but as 4dlvr asked...is it necessary? In my opinion it isn't necessary to change oil filters every 5000km...but at least 10000km, 15000km is pushing it and definitely not 30000km.

One of my friends owned an EA...it was treated as a bush basher, didn't have a service for 3 years (80000km-ish) and never missed a beat...besides a flat battery. After 3 years, he gave it a service...oil, oil filter, spark plugs and leads. I believe the car still runs today

Goes to show, Fords still go after many years of abuse and neglect.

aight well i got some stuff done today!
just changed oil used nulon stuff and a ryco oil filter, changed my fuel filter aswell..the other had a bit of crap in it but nothing major. i got some throttle body cleaner stuff aswell and cleaned my isc.
had my idle adjusted higher but think i need to drop it down now.
i also changed the battery as it was really slow to start in the mornings.

when i started it about 30mins ago..bout 2-3 hours after everything was done, it seems it still revs upto 2000rpm holds there for 2-3 seconds then drops..what could be causing this? any help appreciated!

any one able to help me work out what the start-up issue is?
could it possibly be linked to when i start the car in the morning its very sluggish (i thought it could be battery but i swapped it with a newish one and still does the same, alternator is also fine aswell) when i try start..its sluggish but turns over in about 2-3 seconds. Kind've like when you flood a lawn mower or something is how i would describe it?
earlier today after quickly stopping at an atm to grab money out..car was turned off for approx 3 minutes when i started it again it rev'd upto 3000rpm O.O held there for 2 seconds, lowered to 2000rpm and held here for atleast 4-5 seconds (my foot was nowhere near the accelerator).
but when i did rev it..as soon as i took my foot off it went back down to normal-ish idle.

im sure i need to adjust my base idle as it is sitting around 1000-1100 which would be too high?

How did you adjust your idle ?

On the EB you have to disconnect the actual ISC loom and adjust the idle without it connected.

Then once you are happy with the idle switch the car off reconnect the ISC and then its done.

Maybe your car is the same procedure.

did what you said to, i adjusted it to pretty much just before stalling then connected ISC, idle seems pretty good right now.

and now i have just remembered something else..when my car just sits there idling the temperature goes right upto the O in NORMAL and my thermo fan/s kick in.
when the fans came on..i should say fan, because only one is working?!?
could this be a relay or do the actual fan motors or whatever burn out?
i have some fans in my shed from another EF, should i swap these over or am i better off checking other things first?

their fairly easy to take out and put in, so try the other fans and if the same thing happens i suspect a electrical fault.
mine is either both on or both off

If you suspect relays why dont you swap them to see if the other one kicks in? if not then try other fans, although its ony two scews and two links init!

trial and error mate, hope you have a win... Had a relay go on my El fairmont ghia about 1yr ago and it stopped the passenger side fan from working. Lucky it was a normal 4-pin 30amp relay so i replaced it after doing a fault diagosis via the gregory's manual steps. The relay cost me $3.95

Cheers and have a nice day,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good to see it worked with the idle. Not sure on the thermo fan issue but i know that on my BA only 1 thermo fan works and the 2nd one only comes on when i turn on the aircon. Now with the idle you may find it a tad low so just repeat the same procedure to turn it up if need be.

I use a Motorcraft oil filter....better than Ryco.
I also use Mitsubishi engine oil 15W50.
